Explaining it does not even do it justice. I know it made impact on me. Everyone was standing and cheering as loud as they could and the Beechwood players mobbed him in the end zone like he just won the state championship for them. When they hoisted him up on their shoulders and carried him off the field it was icing on the cake. Not a dry eye in sight. Definitely something I was glad to see in person and something that will leave an impression on me for ever.

This touches my heart. I have a cousin with Downs and it's so nice to see this acceptance and fellowship. Great job, Beechwood. You got it right.

Awsome and then some! Cudos to all involved! Makes one remeber that life is so much more than what we often make it and these kind of stories help remind us of what is really important. It also made me think back to last years state title game against Fairview. Late in the game and long after the outcome was decided Fairview put in a kid who had some kind of disorder that made him not grow, he was a midget if that is a acceptable term to use. When Fairview put him in the game I think everyone in the stadium, atleast where I was down on the Cards sideline, forgot that it was a state title football game and we all cheered him on. Great move by Beechwood and Fairview.

Here is a picture from a few weeks ago at Beechwood's first home game. Miles lead his teammates onto the field and through the banner.

 

His mother posted on Facebook: "Who loves his job? Thanks Beechwood Tigers-Football for making this possible. — feeling blessed with Jim Laird at Beechwood Independent High School."

 

Actually the faces on the kids behind Miles are just as good. Miles makes a difference in their lives!

 

Coach Procaccino and all those who knew Miles was going to run that play sure did a good job keeping it quiet and springing a wonderful surprise on everyone, apparently parents included. Miles is a lot fun and brings joy to all those who are around him.

 

I recently heard a story that I thought of when this happened. An elderly woman living in a nursing home became incapable of taking care of herself, including having to be fed by others. She asked her priest, "Why am I here?" The priest told her, "Some of us are here to teach others how to give."

 

Miles is an example of someone who teaches all of us the joy of giving. By giving him this moment he gave all of us even more in return. Thank you Miles!

I love seeing stories like these. I think Tony said it best, "Miles is just as much a part of this program as any other player or coach." What I take away from stories like these is the amount of true acceptance from the teammates. Not only will Miles take with him the fantastic memory of scoring a touchdown, but he'll always remember the excitement his teammates had when he crossed the goal line. You can't buy that kind of happiness!

Well done to the fine folks in Ft Mitchell. The mom said it best when said the acceptance by the community is a blessing.

This is one of those stories that puts everything else in perspective, great job by both teams, a story that puts a lump in your throat the size of a basketball.
