Is Simon Kenton a real threat to win it all?

Featured Replies

Difficult to do when a blowhard like ukfan is banging on every drum available and upsetting the apple cart. But yes SK is a threat.

They have:

- A big and good O line

- A division 1 QB with all the tools

- Best 6A D in the region with depth

If there was a year for SK to maximize a state title run. This would be it!

No disrespect to SK opponents but they have not played a schedule that would suggest they are going to be 6A State Champions or even Regional Champions to say the least.

I believe their weak schedule will catch up with them here shortly.

If the "writing X off" is pointed at me, that's not the case. But you would Amit that right now they are not the top 3 and that's the point. X beat them and they are the 4th or 5th beat team right now. Don't recall me saying they didn't have a shot! I know they've had key injuries and still make all their games competitive. All kinds of respect for X. Don't take it personal. If the season ended today and it was just a voting deal based on records and head to head, X would be at least 4 and maybe 5. Not saying anything you don't know. They could still have it come together in the end. I believe 6A is wide open. I just don't think SK can play with those teams when it counts... Including X!

I have no idea. I'm asking who will they play? Are there teams that will end up on there side that could beat them prior to the finals? That's what I'm asking. I do know that outside 4-6 teams, 6A is pretty weak. That's why I'm curious who they would see!

According to another thread Henderson, Mccraken, and Butler would be their toughest obstacles.

You didn't say they didn't have a shot, but you didn't include them in having a shot either. Not that it really matters but you said, they're at least 4th. Who are the 3 teams better than them?

T, Male, SC, then I'd have to say Manual has put themselves in the mix. I guess they could make an argument for the third spot. And I didn't know I made a prediction on who would win it (leaving X out)

I'd be willing to go with this scenario as in "so you're saying there's a chance!"

If a lot of "ifs" come together, then I agree they could be set up to at least have a chance.

Even though the big guys will all be on the other side, looking at the probabilities, who would SK meet in the playoffs? Do they have a cake walk to the playoffs even though the big guys are on the other side? They still have to win some games to get there.

Agree that Simon Kenton still has to win games to get there. But as stated on here, those games are against teams like McCracken County, Henderson County and Butler.

On the other side, you'll have Trinity, St. Xavier, Male, Manual, Scott County, etc. meaning that, like I predicted, whoever gets to the finals is probably going to have to win 2-3 tough games to get there. If being a favorite to get to the finals in the weaker bracket doesn't give someone a real chance to win when it wouldn't really surprise anyone if any of the four out of Trinity, St. Xavier, Male, and Scott County got there, then I don't know what is. I think it's fair to say that, given the final score of the Trinity game, Manual could be the type of team who spoils someone's chances and knocks out a favorite, but I don't know if they are capable of stringing together 2-3 games to get to the finals, especially considering their likely seed.

I've said that winning it all means that they'll probably have to play one game "above their heads" and have some things go right, but it looks like barring an upset, they'll have a chance to play that game over their heads. If I'm going to pick a team to play a game "over their heads", I'd want one with a good quarterback, and Simon Kenton certainly has one. I think we're probably in agreement on that, or at least closer in opinion than you might realize.

I do think that they have to go on the road to play the Western Kentucky regional winner, and that one may be a tougher contest than they realize if some user's opinions about them being untested and/or overrated are true.

Going on the road and winning in western ky (regardless of the opponent) would be a good start and I would consider that their first challenge because of the travel.

And I do agree their QB is darn good! Just not sure how much pressure has been put on him so far. I know Campbell co never got close to him. Could have timed their rush with and hour glass and cc's db's are a weakness in their D this year (according to a couple folks close to the program). So it will interesting to see what happens when there is a lot more pressure applied and the top couple receivers get locked down by talented DB's. They struggled with Collins and Conner and I know neither of them are even close to the level of T, X, SC or Male.

Could things go right for them in one game?...sure! But it would have to be a combination of things.

Definitely agree with that.

On that side of the bracket SK would play someone from the South Louisville district (Butler, PRP, Seneca, Southern) in the first round. Butler and PRP are the top 2 in that district and neither are very good when they've faced teams from the "super" district. If they survive that their opponent will likely be Henderson Co. or McCracken Co. and SK will have to travel.

No! Don't we go through this every year? :ohbrother:

But is this year different? It sure looks different this year in a lot of ways.

Sorry, but I am not drinking the kool-aid!

I think it would take a perfect storm for SK to win it all but they definitely have a chance at it. Their defense is good enough to keep it close enough for Kuntz and company to pull out some W's. I would say they for sure have a punchers chance, especially after seeing some scores from the big dogs in 6A on Friday. I would never say never, because if the perfect storm happened to form uk#1fan would be camping out in front of my house to hit me in the face with a special crow pie. :thumb:
