Is Simon Kenton a real threat to win it all?

Featured Replies

I hope so as a NKY fan but I wouldnt hold my breath.

Something about 6A out of NKY, just not very strong at all in the playoffs...

I agree. I actually thinhk the Scott Co's and Male's etc of the world are licking their lips waiting for the playoffs this year. I think they all see that the mighty T can be taken down this year.

I personally think T still wins it all, but as I said earlier, this may be the weakest T team in awhile and who knows if the other 6A schools will have a chance like this for a while after this year.

Until someone in KY beats T then this is all wishful thinking. Yes, it is still T's to lose. JMO

Until then, welllllll.....

T's worst year is better than most teams best yr ever...Just sayin

They will win it all!

NADA.....T and Male are at least two tds better.

They have a good chance at making the trip to state but the other side of the bracket is loaded with four or five other teams that would likely be favored.

Don't know if Simon Kenton is a real threat to win it all, but I will say that, this year, 6A is more wide open than it has been in a number of years. Trinity and St. Xavier are down by their own standards, and I don't think it'd shock anyone to see either of them upset anytime past the first 2-3 rounds of the playoffs.

Is Simon Kenton the best team? No, no one is really saying that. Could someone get upset and Simon Kenton then beat the team the pulled the upset? There's a better possibility of that happening this year than most others in recent memory.

What is SK's signature win? What win gives you any indication that they can compete with Trinity, Male, etc...?

I see that 7 point win over Conner and think they are still a couple notches below what is needed to win in BG.

What gives me indication that it could happen is that I see posters on BGP whose opinions I respect predicting a Trinity blowout of Manual, posters who say the same things about Manual having no quality wins, and seeing them go to the wire with Trinity. I see Bowling Green dominating St. Xavier in Louisville.

I see a Trinity-St. Xavier dogfight in one week and then St. Xavier lose to Male the next week and Trinity winning by a touchdown.

They just seem way more mortal than they have been recently. Once that aura is gone and more teams see this and think, "why can't we beat them?, whose saying we can't?" and start believing in themselves, then someone knocks them off (especially if it's a road playoff game).

It just seems like one of those years where the field is open and I'd take the "field" over taking any one team to win 6A, regardless of who that team is. In past years, taking Trinity versus the field would have been a no brainer. This year though, I'd take Bowling Green to win it all if they played in the 6A playoffs, but with them in 5A, and to this point in the season, the question of who the best team in the state (or even Louisville) is seems unsettled.

They have a good chance at making the trip to state but the other side of the bracket is loaded with four or five other teams that would likely be favored.

So the teams on the other side of the bracket beat up on one another and Simon Kenton gets to have them in a one and done where they should be the fresher team? Sounds better than them having to go through 2-3 tough games just to get to that point.

I would like to hope so because I'd like to see a NKY 6A team win it all. But I agree with Neerfan here.

As is X. Manual and Scott Co are also better and Central Hardin seems to be on par.

Exactly, which is not a real threat by definition.

SK is a solid team. However, you can't tell how good they are due to their schedule. Beat a pretty good Collins team in week 1. Beat a solid (not great) Conner team by 7.

They do have a QB though that can throw which always makes them a threat.

Everyone on that side of the bracket is playing for second place. The winner will be Male, Trinity or Scott Co.

Until SK beats somebody, they are just pretenders. I hate to say it, because i have said i do want NKY football to get better. But they are a product of their schedule. A lot of hype, but no big wins. Playing teams that aren't on your level doesn't really show much. Watching them run up the score on CC showed me what they are about. They beat a decent Collins team who returned a lot of players from last year's team the the birds demolished. And Collins just lost this week again. They beat an average Conner team by a touchdown. Not very impressive against anyone that is any good. None of the opponents on SK's schedule are anywhere close to the other 6a schools mentioned on here. Not even close! They got beat bad by St X, who now barely finds themselves in the top 4 of 6a. It's a whole different game when you are playing teams just as fast and big as you are and probably more athletic and deeper. I hate to say it (and I've been saying it for 3 years now), but until our 6a teams really start challenging themselves week in and week out, they will continue to be mediocre. Just my opinion.

Why Scott Co, because they returned several of their state runner up team that was the only in-state team to give T any kind of scare. They pummeled SK last year. What makes you think it would be any different this year. SK was amazed by their size and speed (because SK doesn't put themselves in a position to see that during the season), but what makes you think that went away.

You can't go off of their scores. Most teams don't run up the score and they pull starters once the game is not in question. So if you think you can tell how good they are by their scores, you can't unless you saw all those games.

I hope somebody prints this off and puts it in the SK locker room! FYI a bunch of people said SK would go 6-4 or worse on here! Enjoy your crow haters!
