Is Simon Kenton a real threat to win it all?

Sorry, but I am not drinking the kool-aid!

Nor am I. But I do think there is more of a possibility this year than any previous year.

This Simon Kenton squad is much better than years pasts, and given that the field is as wide open as ever I do give them a real chance when it comes down to one game.

Why SK can win it:

1. They believe they can. This class has experienced winning, going to 3 regional finals.

2. Talent. The young running back (Powell) has elite speed and elusiveness. The QB (Kuntz) is one of the best around. He has a strong arm and is elusive enough to buy time to get receivers open. In additiona the receivers catch everything. They may not have great speed but they do have great hands.

3. Size. SK has the size to compete with the big boys.

4. The bracket is favorable. No Trinity or Scott County in Regionals this year.

Why they won't win:

1. Team speed in the secondary and depth on the defensive side.

2. Inconsistent play of the defense. Offense has scored enough points that the defense has had several lapses. This unit should be better and may just need to be 'motivated'.

SK winning 6A = Scott winning 5A. Both are having years that arguably are the best in school history. Both have put up impressive numbers so far against a suspect schedule. Both are still a great distance from the elite in their class.

I would love to someday see an NKY sweep of the finals, but for this year the answer is NO.

Didn't see the Collins game so I will not speculate except to say it was a good opening round opponent on the road.

I have only seen Conner once so I won't say how average or above average they are. I will say Barker was on point all game very tough throws were made right on the money. I think he had 4 incompletions in the first half and all were drops. SK struggled to cover the slot receiver,Way that night. They haven't had that issue since. its up for debate on whether the problem is fixed or they just haven't played another slot receiver Like Way since that game. Probably a bit of both.

SK's dbs had 3 passes fall right out of their hands against Conner.

Could they win it? Sure, they COULD...and this year lines up very nicely for the possibility of someone other than T or X to do it. With that's said...if they have to go to Paducah and play McCracken County, which I think is the likely scenario...I think their journey ends there. Just my opinion.
