Is Simon Kenton a real threat to win it all?

Featured Replies

This discussion got started in another thread. Now, uk#1fan, we know how you feel. Everyone else, try to get beyond that issue and really think about it. Here is what I posted in the other thread:

Game scores and things that make me wonder if Simon Kenton has a legitimate chance:

SK 55 Campbell Co. 35 and CC beating Dixie 16-13.

SK 46 Ryle 7 and Scott County 56 Ryle 14.

Scott County's schedule is weaker than SK's.

Trinity 38 Manual 30.

Male beats St. X, who seems to be going backwards.

Is SK the favorite to win it? No. Do I think they have zero chance? No. I think they could do it. That is all. The stars seem to be aligning right with SK having probably their best team ever and the competition all seeming to be below their usual standards. I won't be shocked if it happens.

So what does everyone else think? Seriously, no ukfan slanted bashing. Why is or isn't SK a legitimate threat to win the 6A title?

I am not talking about previous years. I am talking about THIS year. Trinity and St. X are clearly not the teams they have been. Simon Kenton is better than they have been. What about the teams each of these schools have THIS year?

You have my answer.

They might make it but won't be within 4 touchdowns of whoever they play.

I will be very surprised if anyone THIS YEAR beats them by 4 TD's. I don't think there are any teams that good.

What is SK's signature win? What win gives you any indication that they can compete with Trinity, Male, etc...?

I see that 7 point win over Conner and think they are still a couple notches below what is needed to win in BG.

What is Scott County's signature win? Why does everyone think so highly of them? If we are looking at team records and resumes, Simon Kenton's is as good as Scott County's?

No mention of Scott County in my post.

I do not think highly of Scott Co. As I said in the Scott Co/ HC game thread - any team that gives up over 500 yards should not be in the discussion anyway. I saw Scott Co last year get mauled by HHS - I am not a fan. The best 4 - 6A football teams are all in Louisville.

I believe so, they are better than many think. I know Trinity, X, Male, and Scott County is in the picture, as anyone following KY high school football knows. Many believe that these mentioned teams are clearly better; I don't really see how based on results of many games that have been played. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, which is the reason I think that the Pioneers have as much of a chance as anyone at this point.

Since there is no game that SK has played to date that gives me a barometer of whether they can compete with the Louisville 6A teams I went back to the SK/X scrimmage thread to refresh my memory.

X won - 37-14 final. X fans claiming SK scored their 14 points against 2nd team defense.

I was hoping the game against Dixie next week would tell us a little. Now with Dixie laying an egg at Campbell, even an SK blowout win means little.

I will say this. I don't think they will win it all this year...but, if any year you'd want a shot at it, I think this is the year you would pick because it seems that T is down a bit this year, although they are winning the games they need to, Trinity just doesn't seem to be the Trinity of recent years.

Like I said, I don't think SK can win it all, but if they were gonna have a shot at it, this would be the year you'd pick if you were a SK fan to have your best opportunity to doing so.

I hope so as a NKY fan but I wouldnt hold my breath.

Something about 6A out of NKY, just not very strong at all in the playoffs...
