Is Simon Kenton a real threat to win it all?

Featured Replies

I hope somebody prints this off and puts it in the SK locker room! FYI a bunch of people said SK would go 6-4 or worse on here! Enjoy your crow haters!

Be my guest! I hope they do well, but I just don't know what makes any of the fans think they are in the same league as those other teams. Nothing has shown any of us that yet! I would LOVE for them to do it! Sure, we all love giving you crap! But that doesn't mean we don't root for Nky teams. I don't get any crow cause I don't make predictions!

It's not strength of schedule so much as it is lack of exposure to the type of talent that they will see in the playoffs. The only skill speed team that they have been exposed to is Collins in week one. They eeked out a win because they were better on both lines in that game, not because they matched up skill wise. Against the true elite teams with speed, skill, and solid line play the lack of experience will be evident, just as it was against Scott Co. last year and against X in the scrimmage.

A tougher schedule, even if it meant a loss or two along the way, would have better prepared SK to face what they will see should they make it to the finals. On the upside, any time an NKY team makes it to the final it's a plus for football in our area. On the down side can you imagine the chest pounding by UKFAN over a runner up finish.

Yes, they are a threat. They are faster than most realize and are big and athletic up front. SK offense is pretty diverse and can hurt you in a lot of ways. SK size and body types are very impressive when you see them up close, one of the better looking high school teams I have seen in awhile.

It seems like SK or Male are the favorite non-Trinity team at this point. Now how does the playoff bracket shakedown go? If SK has to face Male enroute to state, that might not be in their favor. I hope they do it. Despite our Highlands-Hater friend's opinions, he is right about one thing. SK is pretty good. I always root for NKY teams so I am pulling for them.

SK vs HHS 2014? C'mon Dale, pull the trigger and do it!

I have said it all year that it will be an all public school 6A final. Scott Co was my thought from the other side, but Male has turned it up lately. Either way I think SK has a great shot at winning a state title.

Why should SK play Highlands in 2014?

SK wouldn't face Male (or Trinity, or Scott County) until the championship game.

I don't know if Simon Kentin can/will win it all but I will say this...they are capable of beating anyone in 6A.

Kuntz is as good as they come at the QB position and is getting better each week. Powell SHOULD be back for the playoffs and the receivers catch virtually everything.

I'd put their offense against any other listed in this thread. If the defense can step it up, they have a legit shot at winning it all.

I'm not sold on Scott Co. Male and Trinity are much bigger threats to SK than Scott Co. Just my opinion.

Completely agree. They look the part. Big and strong.

I agree they look the part and Kuntz is very good! But can they play the part when they come across a team that is just as big, deeper, maybe more athletic and just as fast? My opinion says no because they haven't seen that all year. When you play a team you can't push around as easily and by the way all of a sudden they make some plays that you aren't used to getting made on you and now the pressure is on, rather than cruising thru the 4th qtr, I'm not sure they aren't ready for that. That is huge come playoff time! I hope they are! I really do! But nothing leads me to believe that are. And yes, I've seen them in person.

So instead of us saying why they won't, why don't the SK fans tell us why they will. What wins lead you to believe that they can compete with the big boys? What did you see in the X scrimmage that leads you to believe you could even compete with them now? (Which by the way are barely even mentioned in the thread and they beat SK pretty bad) What makes you think the boys won't be in awe of the T kids when they get on the field with them and they are just as big and fast? What will keep them from the "oh crap" factor taking over because they haven't seen that kind it speed, talent and athleticism? These and more are all legit questions. And why some just aren't believers yet?

I'm not trying to bash SK. I'm just stating my opinion on this post.

Not a Simon Kenton fan, but they have a great chance to get to the finals and face a team whose played 2-3 tough games just to get there. Whoever wins the Louisville semi will have had a much tougher road to get there and, according to who you ask, Simon Kenton would only need to play one game "above their heads" to win it all. That's the main thing I see.

When you watch the X scrimmage, they matched up pretty good up front and their passing game is much improved from that first scrimmage.

Just a question...they matched up well, but still got beat bad? And did the passing game vastly improve or did the opponents get easier? Also, X may not even be in the top 4 this year. So what does "they matched up well against X in the scrimmage" (that they were beat bad in) do to convince us they have a shot?

21 to 14 was the Varsity score.
