Kentucky House Minority Leader Jeff Hoover says Julian Tackett should be fired...

Featured Replies

Kentucky House Minority Leader Jeff Hoover on Tuesday ripped a new rule by the KHSAA that discourages schools form allowing students to shake hands following sporting events, saying the association’s commissioner and board members should be sacked.

“I am so upset. Julian Tackett, the commissioner, and any other KHSAA board member who supported this policy should be IMMEDIATELY AND FORTHWITH FIRED!” Hoover, a Jamestown Republican and a former high school football player, wrote on Facebook.

In his post, Hoover wrote the decision was a “clear sign of stupidity.”

When Hoover took to Twitter to vent his frustration there, Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer wrote, “These folks at KHSAA aren’t known for great decisions for student-athletes. This one is the worst.”

Please tell me this will happen.....

Who would replace Julian Tackett?

Shows how much they pay attention to the KHSAA.

KHSAA reports to the Stae school Board. So wonder if they been made aware before the met yesterday?

I think Tackett has been awesome, but he mishandled this one. Instead of a statement that sounds like they don't want teams to shake hands, he should have issued a statement that made it clear that officials should leave the field/court immediately and any misconduct in handshake lines will be severely penalized. That accomplishes the directive's goal, protects officials and makes it look like the KHSAA is demanding good sportsmanship, not discouraging it.

I don't think the KHSAA can have it both ways. They either endorse it or they don't which either makes them partially responsible for any wrong actions or not.

First of all, get the officials off the field ASAP. That is goal one no matter what. We all know how crazy people get these days. Basketball referees have been getting off the court immediately for quite a while. All other officials should be doing the same.

If legal concerns prevent an endorsement, then they can't endorse it and they should make it clear that is the reason why they can't endorse it. If there are no legal concerns, then endorse it and penalize misbehavior. There is no both ways. Know what your position is and state it clearly.

Bottom line for me on this one is the statement issued by the KHSAA was unclear and created a firestorm that could have been prevented if handled properly.

Why should they shake hands? Sportsmanship. College and Pro's don't shake hands after contests unless they want to. Politicians shouldn't be involved with this. Let it work itself out, they could go back to it.

I agree the initial statement was not ideal but the follow up from the Commish did a good job of spelling everything out.

If you read the current link where the initial post was made and can't figure out that they are not abolishing handshakes, I feel sorry for you.

**Not "you" Guru but "you" in general.

I feel sorry for your for other reasons..............:D
