Hahahaha, ok I just sharted myself. Good one

Me too! Good thing I work from a home office. One resolution would be to make sure that a math teacher at each school oversees the clock operator.

It's 30 points down here in Ga and we don't have too big of a problem with it. The running clock doesn't start till the second half so most coaches keep their foot on the gas pedal until halftime. The closer we get to the playoffs the longer our starters will stay in.

Can the coaches agree to a running clock sooner than the rules allow? For example, using the 45 point rule, the score is 42-0 early in the second quarter ... could the coaches agree to start running the clock then even though it is short of the 45 point rule?

Yes, I have seen it at Beechwood games in the past.

That is what I thought. I believe they started the running clock early last year in the Ludlow game.

Welcome to BGP, RockinGA!

Why does it always have to sink to the "everyone gets a trophy" statements? How in the world does this even come close to everyone gets a trophy mentality?

I have no problem if there weren't a running clock, but I understand why they have it. It speeds up the game so a 3 hour game doesn't turn into a 5 hour game and scores of 150-6. How that equates to what you said confuses the heck out of me.

Because they don't want to hurt the feelings of the team getting the :poop: kicked out of them. Plus, I agree that it can affect records in the future.

We can discuss this in person, I do know where you live. :lol2:

Probably a good thing' date=' but bad for the Birds and the fans. I think alot of folks will be upset if they have to watch halftime games most of the season. I've seen games where the Birds have scored 35 in the 1st qtr alone.[/quote']

Schedule stronger opponents. Even in a victory you won't hang 35 on Elder in the first qtr.

The first week of the playoffs will fly by.

I do understand the thinking of lowering the limit to 36. I don't think that anyone wants really wants to see a wild, embarrassing score ran up on a weak team.

I also agree with the idea another poster had about the rule be implemented in the 2nd half. My opinion the game should be played in regulation time for the 1st half . Should a team be up 36pts(or whatever is decided) or more at the half then yes, start the 2nd half on a running clock. I just think that the game should be played for 2 qtrs. at regulation time regardless. That gets kids (winning or losing team) more reps at regulation time / actual game conditions. Most of not all coaches would substitute when the game gets out of hand with the outcome obvious anyway, regardless of Quarter/time in the game.

I also realize that there are a few coaches around that may be/are classless enough to leave his best in, run it up an just humiliate an opponent. I would certainly hope that would be a very few. A coach that does that crap shouldn't be in coaching anywhere, but especially at the high school level.

At any rate I love high school football and its just another week until kickoff. I hope that all kids on every team everywhere remain injury free. :thumb:

Sounds like this rule was developed with certain teams being the focus.

Agreed. Easy to say that the really strong teams are the "problem", but realistically it is the really weak teams that necessitate the rule.

I agree with your post, especially with not starting a running clock until the 2nd half.

By the way Ga....welcome to BGP, :thumb:

I don't like it. At 45, it gave the back up players more time to get experience if a coach was smart, and kept the score around 36. With the rule now at 36, it will be hard for coaches to keep the score under that limit and get playing time for the back up players. I think this will lead to more second string players playing JV to get experience instead of getting it on Friday night.

Not a good change in my mind.

I went back through the last three years of Warren Central's games to find the difference between when a running clock would have started under the new rule, and when it ultimately started (if it ever did) under the existing rule. Just so someone can see what difference it would potentially make. But as sports fan noted, I think some coaches that had 36 within reach would go for two in some instances rather than kick the PAT to go up 35, as some of these games for Warren Central did.

(First time is when running clock would have started at 36 point margin, second is when it did start at 45 point margin)

2010

Apollo (0:01 - 3rd) (Actual - None)

Warren East (9:26 - 3rd) (Actual - 3:30 - 3rd)

Barren County (2:56 - 3rd) (Actual - None)

Ohio County (7:52 - 3rd) (Actual - 5:46 - 3rd)

2011

Fort Campbell (0:24 - 2nd) (Actual - 9:44 - 3rd)

Barren County (0:51 - 2nd) (Actual - 2:42 - 3rd)

Greenwood (2:17 - 4th) (Actual - None)

Logan County (6:46 - 2nd) (Actual - 1:19 - 2nd)

Graves County (9:27 - 4th) (Actual - None)

Christian County (11:12 - 4th) (Actual - 6:21 - 4th)

2012

Fort Campbell (8:55 - 3rd) (Actual - 7:24 - 3rd)

Barren County (5:35 - 2nd) (Actual - 0:28 - 2nd)

Greenwood (9:29 - 4th) (Actual - None)

Logan County (10:04 - 2nd) (Actual - 8:18 - 2nd)

Southwestern (7:15 - 3rd) (Actual - 3:31 - 3rd)

Hopkinsville (4:45 - 2nd) (Actual - 1:16 - 2nd)

In all Warren Central notched 11 running clocks out of 39 games played (28.2%). The new rule would have added five more, which would have made it 16/39 (41.0%).

These are very eye-catching statistics. It would appear the new limit is to low.

Great work here.
