Never liked roller coasters until about 3 years ago.

 

I started taking Dramamine. I can ride pretty much anything now.

Was able to catch Son during some of the span it was actually open, and it was okay. If it were still there, I'd ride it. But, like everyone else, I have to say it was rough.

 

It's interesting to me we are discussing Son, while KI plans to build another "record breaking", i.e. experimental coaster. In the back of my mind, I'm figuring this could be another engineering trainwreck that never really achieves full functionality. Hope I'm wrong, I love coasters.

 

Which is why, I wouldn't be at all mad, if they just built another really tall, fast, coaster.

I doubt it will be a trainwreck. Now that Cedar Fair owns KI. They have an outstanding track record, their flagship park, Cedar Point has some TREMENDOUS coasters. They're really good at what they do!

My brother and I are heading there next year.

Being I have lost weight I can thoroughly enjoy going and not worried about getting harpooned, when I hit the water park.

I was wondering if that were the case now. We were there a couple weeks ago, and you could purchase a package deal on tix between Kings Island and Cedar Point.

Rode Son of Beast the first year it was open with the loop and all. Liked it, wife hated it.

Agree with Cedar Point having great coasters. Agree that their ownership of KI is a pretty good thing over having ownership by Paramount, etc.

 

Color me skeptical on a new coaster though until I see more details.

I may or may not have been in charge of doing the grading and building the foundations for the new coaster. :whistling:

 

And I'm agreed...Cedar Fair knows how to do things up right when it comes to roller coasters.

I didn't even know they destroyed Son of Beast.

Cedar Fair Inc bought KI in 2006. They put in Diamondback in 2009. They have a history of building Record breaking coaster every 3-5 years at Cedar Point. I grew up there and pretty much remember every one of them going in. Eleven of their roller coasters were record breakers of some kind when they were built. Only 2 coasters have been removed that I can remember, The Wildcat and The Jumbo Jet. That was just to replace them with better ones, not because of issues.

 

If memory serves, KI is the largest amusement park in the US as far as land goes.

 

Cedar Point, in Sandusky, is on a penninsula and is totally land locked. From what I hear from folks back in Sandusky, CF is pissed at the city of Sandusky, who once again added additional taxes to Cedar Point. CF has said that they are tired of being bled by the city and paying for their mismanagment and chasing off industrial jobs.

 

Several folks I know said they would not be at all surprised to see Cedar Fair start to put their emphasis on KI, and scuttlebutt is that Gate Keeper may be the last major ride built at CP unless some long term agreements are made. Concidering the available property, and a currently friendly city government at KI, I would not be surprised either.

Oh and by the way. Son of Beast was a piece of crap.
