I don't know if he will be black but here's my theory. We've grown a population up to rely on government assistance. They are programmed to vote for their meal ticket every 4 years, and I don't think it will matter the skin tone, as long as it keeps the checks in the mail and the plastic food card loaded. The worst thing a candidate could do if he wants elected is to make "work for what you get" his platform.

I hear this a lot, but the problem with this argument, is that the poor really don't vote. Also, remember, Bush won two terms not all that long ago.....why wouldn't everyone looking for a handout have been enough to sway those two elections?? The vast majority of democrats are not lazy, uneducated bums living off the system.

Maybe he meant this:

Looking at all of the media coverage of the Zimmerman case and seeing how he was a White-Hispanic, should President Obama be referred to as the first White-Black President?

You couldn't be more wrong on that one. No one said that the vast majority of dems are lazy, uneducated bums living off the system. But if you have followed the last 2 elections, I think you would have to agree that "system" votes are significant. Significant enough, IMO, to make a difference in a close election.

Do you honestly believe either of the bolded statements?
While I know you are dismissing his comment as craziness, I think it has a lot more merit than you are giving it. Obviously there will be other white males that will run and win the election, but these parties are always trying to find the next up and coming minority type candidates in hope of securing those votes and appealing across a different American landscape.
Will there? Sure. It just depends on the person and the opposition.

Mt Ref so accurate points out that the last two elections have shown that far right politics is not going to get the vote of the rapidly-growing Latino population. Add in some lessons on how to rally the young and minorities and it's set up well for a minority candidate to win.

Now if the Rs get smart and leave the extreme candidates home then they can absolutely run away with the election.

Republican catch-22...... You need to be on the right to get nominated. The nominated candidate is too far right to win the general election.

He said "Better question is will there ever be another white male president?" IMO, that is not a "better" question than if there will be another black president. There have been 43 different Presidents. 42 white, one black. It holds SOME merit, because of the fact you pointed out about minority candidates. But I think it's silly to suggest there will never be another white male President, when in reality, the next one is more than likely to be. JMO.

Do you think the R's past two candidates were extremists?

Of course we will have another black president and it will occur in my lifetime (mid 50's). It might even be sooner rather than later.

Black White. I believe the father's influence usually is listed first.

If the right person comes along sure. America is as diverse as its ever been and trending in that direction. A solid black candidate will have as good of chance as anyone.

I agree.

Another question is will we have another black president before we have a woman or a Hispanic president?

Yes, there will be another black president. Obama's problem isn't being a black president, it's that he's a white liberal. :sarcastic:

I'm just hoping the next black president will be a black conservative.

Ok, that's clever.

And technically, Obama isn't black, he's white African American as Jumper_Dad pointed out. Right? :D
