With all the hand-wringing over Obama, it's a question that needs asking. My bet says no way in hell in my lifetime.

Let me say I think there will be a non caucasian elected. Does that count?

Better question is will there ever be another white male president?

The way the blacks and Hispanics turn out to vote and throw in the liberals, I say it will be hard to elect one. Democrats will never run another white male.

Do you honestly believe either of the bolded statements?

To answer the thread question, it will be a LONG time before it happens again. If ever.

Will there? Sure. It just depends on the person and the opposition.

Mt Ref so accurate points out that the last two elections have shown that far right politics is not going to get the vote of the rapidly-growing Latino population. Add in some lessons on how to rally the young and minorities and it's set up well for a minority candidate to win.

Now if the Rs get smart and leave the extreme candidates home then they can absolutely run away with the election.

If the right person comes along sure. America is as diverse as its ever been and trending in that direction. A solid black candidate will have as good of chance as anyone.

I don't know if he will be black but here's my theory. We've grown a population up to rely on government assistance. They are programmed to vote for their meal ticket every 4 years, and I don't think it will matter the skin tone, as long as it keeps the checks in the mail and the plastic food card loaded. The worst thing a candidate could do if he wants elected is to make "work for what you get" his platform.

Mitt Romney and John McCain are FAR Right or EXTREME?

One was Mormon and one was 137 and chose a disaster as a running mate, so as a Republican, I'd say they both faced real roadblocks to being elected. I wouldn't call either "extreme", so I'm with you there, but they were both unfortunate choices, in my opinion.

Oh yeah 100% agree they were bad choices, but neither was Far Right or Extreme.
