Do you buy or do you go to the library?

 

My daughter I were talking tonight about this. We're both library people. Some will remember my brother from another mother HSSRB who used to post on here. He buys all of his books.

 

I've never gotten that unless we're talking exceptions ie classics or reference books.

 

For those that buy why do you buy instead of going to the local library?

Library lover. Have been for many many years. Only exception was a recent trip to Half Price Books to get paperbacks for a trip.

.........I'm a book buyer (used a Kindle for a year or so but just didn't like the feel), to be sure. Prefer hardbacks, but will buy paperbacks as well. I like the feel of a new book, but once I've read it I'm happy to loan it to family and friends (although I'd always like it back).

I'm not only a buyer I'm a hoarder. I loan you 50 bucks and I'll likely forget, I loan you a book and you don't give it back I'll hound you unmercifully. Don't know why. I have several large book shelves in my living room where I have my "library" displayed. Some of my books I've read several times. I have been known to browse at a book store and then buying on Amazon.

Both. I rarely read a book twice. But there are some I buy because they are so fascinating and complex I can reread them and always get more from them. Or they hold some sentimental value. Like AT I am a hoarder. Once I make the decision to buy, I will never give it away.

 

When I was a child, I created my own library and I charged fines if you borrowed the book and didn't return it in a timely manner.

Always buy, mostly hardback, sometimes Kindle. I have shelves full of books. I just like to collect them. My mom still goes to the library. My oldest son and I share books, but return them to the other. I have complete sets of Grisham, Dan Brown,Michael Connelly, and Stephen Ambrose. My son has collected all of James Paterson's.

Love the bookstore. Love collecting books. Reread a lot of passages over and over. Love giving books I dig to others.

I go to my favorite author's websites to find out the next titles that are not yet available. Then I go online to my library and put it in reserve.

When I get that email notification that my book is available, it's like Christmas!

I haven't checked a book out of the library since school & that was for classwork.

 

Always buy. No library. And it's very rare that I borrow from someone because I'm bad about getting it back (just ask Papa :lol2:). Now, I do lend books to friends/neighbors all the time. But as for me, if I want to read a book I buy it. I usually go to Barnes & Noble, Half Price, or Joseph Beth.

I'm a fan of the "cheapo" section at Barnes & Noble, but I will go to the library on occasion. I'm a history buff and have a about 100 in my collection. Also fascinated about Nikola Tesla, have a few books about him.

Mostly a buyer. I read them, then sell or donate them when I'm done.

There's some of both. I try to only buy certain books that 1) I know I'll read again or 2) are attractive volumes that I'll enjoy having around. But lots of times they are just things that the library doesn't have.

I'm a buyer, mostly off of Amazon. I enjoy owning and building my collection, basically my own library.

Both-enjoy the library & love reading a new book. I donate a lot of the books I buy after reading to the library. I do have a fairly extensive library & love to keep the books I get signed by the author.

Like MJ, I enjoy building my own library. However, I can't remember the last time that I paid full price for a book at the store. A good portion of my books have been bought at many of the libraries' book sales or even garage sales. But, if I actually go to a store, it's usually Half Price Books in Florence. Have picked up quite a few hardbacks there, in great (if not near-new) condition for only four to eight bucks.
