June 12, 201313 yr No, not even close. I was the guy in the neighborhood who couldn't dunk on my neighbors 8 foot rim. A couple of my buddies would hang after the games and throw me lobs, still no way. Was fun trying though!
June 12, 201313 yr Reminds me of a story. I wrestled in high school (the "other" winter sport). I stunk at basketball, and in a school with 2100 kids in 3 grades, I wasn't likely to make the basketball team even if I was inclined to try out. I couldn't dunk, but I was a whiz with the whizzer. Anyway, the best wrestler on our team was as strong as an ox and marginally smarter than one. He and I were in the same gym class one day and he landed awkwardly on the mat after trying something goofy on the mini-tramp. Later that afternoon when the wrestling coach coach asked him why he was sitting out practice, he said - this is the truth - "I sprained my head". Likely not the best story I've ever read on this site, but it's truly hilarious. Has to be one of my top five favorites ever. If I'm the coach, or in your case his teammate, I don't know where to go from there. It would have just been too easy...
June 12, 201313 yr When I was in high school and college I could jump up and grab the rim, but I could never dunk. Now I couldn't jump and grab the net.
June 12, 201313 yr Could back in the day...pretty good too. Can't now. 2 bad knees and 50-60 pounds more than I should be (even more than that if considering optimal basketball weight) don't equate to getting up to the rim very well. Never got one in an actual game, only had 2 or 3 opportunities but never took advantage of them when they were there.
June 12, 201313 yr I had a small window when I dropped my linebacker weight and was trying to transition to the offensive side of the ball at Hanover. I dropped 43 lbs over six months and felt like I could fly. I could dunk w/ two hands. I got hurt at work later that summer, and spent my final year of college living a normal college existence. That window shut real fast. Now, I'm not sure if I could get the rim. I'm right around 6'0
June 12, 201313 yr I used to get rim have since broken both ankles so NO. I used to get the tennis ball on a perfectly place lob though.
June 12, 201313 yr I was very close. Could dunk a girls ball on a good day. Could also drop step and break down the rim with two hands. That was 20 years and 60 pounds ago. My son can dunk well. Im 5'11 he's almost 6'5.
June 12, 201313 yr Yep. Best Dunk I had was a reverse two hander. Last dunk was probably around 20 years ago. Still barely get rim on neighbors hoop. Not bad for fitty...
June 12, 201313 yr I could dunk from the time I was 17 until I was 31, at 40 I could still grab and hang on the rim. Now at 45 it hurts me to jump up and touch the net. I was a 2 footed jumper so I never had palming the ball issues. In my best days around the age of 24 I could almost hit my elbow on the rim, for a 6' guy I got off the floor pretty good.
June 12, 201313 yr I could dunk from the ages between 20 and 27' but only two handed as I have trouble palming the ball. I tore my ACL when I was 27 and never got my hops back. I am 6'2" or a little more.
