No chance Dressman is the QB? Better use of talent to put a little lesser talent at QB (Wagner) so you can get both Wagner and Dressman on the field?

I'm not sure how well Dressman slings it.

My guess(key) is CCH will be better with both on the field.

I'm told that Cole Von Handorf and his family have decided he should be on the frosh team so that means MR Wagner (can't remember his first name) is the likely starter at QB.

Will the same decision be made with basketball? I do not understand the reasoning behind this. I would not think the risk of injury to be that much greater playing varsity - just wondering if there is another reason here. With you saying that he and his family decided, did the coach not have any part of the decision as well?

Just curious....

No.

Sometimes a very young kid may possess the physical ability to play with the big boys but at the end of the day mental injury can be worst than physical injury.

We are talking about a QB correct? How big is this kid?

I have to believe this was Coach Wirth's decision to keep him with the Freddies and let him develop gradually:thumb:

Some schools have a "no contact sports participation by underclassmen" for Varsity contact sports. Does CovCath have this rule? It doesnt apply to basketball since it is not a contact sport.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what's being said, Cole playing Freshman football or not has no bearing on whether Adam Wagner would be the Starting QB. Wagner was going to be the starter this year whether Cole played Freshman or Varsity football.

As for the other personnel:

RB: Luke Bir will be the primary ball carrier. Incredibly strong- pretty fast- not blazing, but shifty.

ATH: Sam Dressman will line up all over the place- inside slot receiver, RB and probably some QB in the Wildcat. Also punts and place kicker.

WR: very nice returning talent led by Braun and Hatter

OL: all Senior lineup led by multi year starters Stewart and Kathman at Tackles and Connaughton at Center.

DL: least amount of experience returning but have some talented kids. I will confess That I am not familiar with all the names.

LB: Burchell is a stud- enough said. Nelms also returns and is a Sr. Should be a good group

Secondary: probably the strongest returning group led by Oberhausen and Fischer. The other Wagner brother is also a strong player at String Safety.

Overall, with the tougher schedule, I would expect an additional loss over last year, but the games will prepare them much better and they will be stronger for it.

Is this Dusty's boy. I think he has a son this young still, not sure though...

You are thinking Cottingham ... his son is at Beechwood and is a defensive back.

So kids and the family have the say when it comes to what position and when they'll play? I've never heard that before.

Position - no.

When they'll play varsity in a situation like this - absolutely.

If I don't feel my freshman son is ready to play varsity, he isn't playing varsity regardless of what the coach thinks.

I don't know where this talk all started, but Cole was never going to play varsity for the football team. Kid is and will continue to be a stud, but that wasn't going to happen.

CCH has too many other skilled players who are several years older to take that drastic step. IMO, unless you are a 1A or 2A team with low numbers and limited options you just don't play Freshmen with Varsity. Too great a risk all the way around.

And I agree with VOR- kids and parents have 0 say in position or playing time. Now if the kid is a Freshman and is asked to move up, then yes, the parents have a say. But that did not happen here.

Clyde's post implied that b/c his parents prevented him from playing varsity this year, Wagner would be the starter.....at least that's how I interpreted it. Oh well, look forward to seeing this kid someday.

I've not ever known Coach Wirth to offer any excuses. I'm assuming you're alleging that he makes excuses are for not beating Highlands?

I was not trying imply that he was making excuses. However, whether it be the HC or others supporting the program, people have alluded to the past two Head Coaches, the Schedule, the feeder programs etc. as reasons for CovCath not being at the level SOME expect.

My point was that after 4 or 5 years, the schedule, the Program, the Feeder system are all under the control of the current regime. The results on the field are now a product of that regime and the talent of the players on the field.

Their record the past few years has gotten better, in large part becuase of the current coaches and the hard work the players have put in. In a smaller way because of the strength of the schedule. With this years schedule we can truly see how far the program has come these past 5 years.

While beating Highlands is the ultimate scale that CovCath is measured on, I don't think it is fair to be the only measurement. If CovCath goes 8-2 or 7-3 in the regular season with losses to Moeller and Highlands, I would think that would be considered a good season in anybodys book. Beating Highlands would make it a great season and put the current HC in rarified air in NKY. If they can't conquer the rival from Ft. Thomas, they can still be considered a good team, a good coach and a good program.

If they/he want to be considered Great they have to beat the Bluebirds, no qualifiers of its closer than it used to be etc.

Not position. That's not really a debate.

There could be many reasons as to why they all think frosh ball is the best for him.

Clyde's post implied that b/c his parents prevented him from playing varsity this year' date=' Wagner would be the starter.....at least that's how I interpreted it. Oh well, look forward to seeing this kid someday.[/quote']

That certainly was not the intent. IMO there could have been a battle for the position with Wags coming in as the leader. All I meant was that now that battle will not take place.

This is the big man on the sidelines 4th or 5th year. No more excuses, time to take it to the next level.
