Ha...flight departs in 16 hours 18 minutes. (Not like I'm counting or anything.)

Well, you're now married so that means one thing.

Your wife is mad at how much time you spend on BGP.

Welcome.

Are you talking about freshman filling these spots ?

No.

The O-line returns 3 starters (both Tackles and Center) and the new boys coming in at Guard and the depth behind them looks good. I believe O- line will be a strength.

...

Defensively, again much depends on the line. Not a ton of experience in the trenches. Boys that got some good playing time last year but not a bell cow player. Some of this will be worked out in the months to come, as a couple of their hopeful players at this position were playing baseball or injured.

The LB corp is led by Sam Burchell who is just one of the great young men in N Ky right now. Obvious skills aside, he is a terrific leader on and off the field. They return experience in Nelms as well. With Sam's presence alone, that makes the LB's a strength.

...

They could have a few Soph's step up at key moments as well. Kids like Ben Dressman @ QB, Ben Darlington @ RB, Lucas Timmerman @ LB, Brody Thorson and Jacob Stiens @ DL, Mike Schulte @ OL, Decker Schwartz and Cam Pitzer in the Secondary and Ryan McGinness at WR.

She gets the Gap Outlet, I get BGP. I call it even.

(I'm sure she won't. :bag:)

Shouldn't come to CCH if he wants "assurances" of playing QB. I most definitely think he would compete at the highest level though. Against Cole, I don't think he wins a starting spot. If Cole goes the b-ball route, he competes against Hentz at his own grade level. However, that would be great competition as well as I think Tony is a starter on any other Freshman team. Has a great arm- just not the speed and strength as Cole ( but few do at that age).

I agree. Here's the thing about CCH purely from the athletic side of things - they draw a lot of athletes from all over the area. Players that would start at many programs are special teams only at CCH, or maybe even just a backup. Players that are the man at another program, get moved to a different position than they want and fill a role. For example, if you look at basketball, I would say CCH cuts players that you could take and form a competitive team in the region. Of course, Morgan may be one of those top level players that wins the job he wants. If you want to compete in high school for a starting role and challenge yourself to be the best, CCH is one of the better places to go. Just don't be surprised if that other top level player beats you out.

Anyone know who is supposed to start at linebacker this year? Burchell nelms and who else fills the gap

TBD- among Kathman, Rensing, Harden. Couple Soph's could get looks.

Timmerman got most reps at middle backer at spring game. i also thought Shelton was at SPring game, Did he dress or did Wirth just have him watch. Any chance for him to get any snaps at backer?

Burchell was out for the spring game which is why Timmerman got the reps. But it would not surprise me to see him in there from time to time.

I highly highly doubt Shelton gets time at LB any other time but running clock mop up minutes. My guess is he is one of @ 7-8 Frosh that will be asked to dress varsity on game day. He was just watching Spring Game.

When does Burchell look to be back?? Timmerman will compliment the d nicely. I guess same burchell was the last freshman to get real varsity playing time. Would Shelton be considered the next most likely to do that. What about him longsnapping? Who is the current longsnapper and would Shelton give him a run for his money?

Any frosh that plays varsity had better be a physically advanced frosh or CCH is in trouble.

Sam should be back full speed before long. No idea on Freshmen. I vote like others that we pump the brakes a little on these guys. Let them lift weights first and see what happens. I highly highly doubt any of these Frosh (as talented as they are) will contribute anything other than mop up minutes. Plenty of good Soph's thru Sr's to take care of the job.

CovCath needs to get their defense to a different level of conditioning. They need to beat Highlands for any hope at a state title. In the past four games, Highlands has basically "pressed" CovCath's D. Their ability to sub in groups and snap the ball right after the ball is set has really messed w/ CC's defense. A. they are way too slow recognizing changes in personel so that they either don't make proper subs, or don't get into proper alignment, and B. their players are gassed at the beginning of the second quarter. They need to be able to match Highlands in that category. Fatigue led to a ton of missed tackles last year, many of them on key third downs.

Question: does CovCath not have comparable/greater numbers of players on the varsity squad, compared with HHS? If so, I would think CCH would be able to do the same kinds of things in terms of subbing.

Numbers compare, skill compares, they are a little slower than Highlands. They are very much less conditioned. If they can get in better shape, these games will become barn burners.

No doubt they have been out coached in that area. Covcath's d-coordinator doesn't seem to be able to adjust quickly enough after the first few series. The last 4 or so games have all played the same way. Covcath's defense plays well and slows down (doesn't stop) the Highlands offense. Then Dale starts making adjustments either in personnel or scheme and CovCath doesn't adjust. I think it's more mental fatigue than it is physical. The last few years I have not seen a huge gap on the field with ability. The 1st quarter is almost always a stale mate. Then HHS makes adjustments that seems to take Covcath another quarter to counter, by that time HHS is making another adjustment and so it goes.

I would agree that speed/quickness is still the one physical difference between the two. That and the mental part of the game both on the field and on the sidelines.
