No, he did not have his K9 nor was he in his regular patrol SUV, which is why there was no Dash Cam according to press conference earlier.

The exit is behind the reporter, not sure of the location on the exit of the shooting. Report I read said he was shot by a shotgun from nearby hillside.

If it wasn't random then it had to be someone who knew his routine. It always hits close to home when we lose a guy within the Bluegrass. You either know them because of being in the academy with them or inservice with them, or you know someone who was. Sickening. Rest in peace brother.

I'm not really familiar with the area is it not a very crowded area at that time of night because around here it wouldn't be that awkward for there to be probably at least one car to three cars coming through an exit ramp every minute or two really. I mean if it were at the top of a street or something that'd be different but ya. I dunno, sure is ballsy and STUPID to kill a police office though.

 

Nelson County would mostly be considered rural. No late night life that would keep traffic out that late. The Parkway would probably not be a regular path used by locals as it basically only has the one exit in the county. The parkway looks nothing like I-75 or I-65. It is light traffic even during the day. At night, it can be be fairly lonely on it.

 

This is a strange situation. If your looking to just to kill for sport an ambush on a parkway exit seems an odd place. Otherwise this may have been a 'hit' on the officer. Very sad in any case.

This just makes me sick to my stomach. Such a terrible thing. My heart is heavy for his family's grief.

Ok ok I've got ya now. I didn't realize it happened off of the Bluegrass Parkway, I've been on that a few times in the past couple of years, it's definitely not a heavily populated area. Parts of that area are so sparse it's hard to even call them populated.

There is some speculation there may be a connection to this, as Ellis took in three of the guys involved in a beating at the local Huddle House of a man. The "leader" recently copped a plea for 20 years in connection with this.

I also believe that one of these thugs has a picture of a shotgun on his facebook page... I knew Jason from baseball and I can tell you that he was honestly one of the nicest, most genuine people that I have ever met. He was truly a natural born leader and I pray for comfort for his wife and boys.

That's really close to the B&B I visited a few years ago.
