Guru, I hate to ask such a personal question, but I'd be curious to know what goes through an officer's mind in a tragedy such as this, especially if it were one of your immediate colleagues within the department. In my line of work, there's not much that shocks me anymore, but this has, as it is something I've never been this close to.

 

I know most of the men and women on the BPD and knew Jason as well, and I've found myself really hurting for those folks and what they're going through right now. It's gotta be a very unsettling feeling of vulnerability, at the very least. I know Chief McCubbin best of all of them, and his anger and anguish is very palpable when reading his comments in the story. This will not end well for those responsible. I am concerned it will likely end violently, without a trial.

Shame to hear this. Prayers to his family.

My wife's dept lost an officer (the Sheriff was murdered) several years ago and I can tell you it is truly like losing a member of your immediate family.

Update to the homicide investigation of the Bardstown Police officer who was shot to death this morning: The coroner confirms Jason Ellis was shot multiple times with a shotgun by a shooter who was positioned on a nearby hill. Officials say they believe the shooting was an ambush.

Now the question becomes were they ambushing him or someone else and he just happened to stumble upon it first. This is just horrible, I can't imagine what his family must be going through right now.

It sounds if they may have targeted him. He had just gotten off work and I assume was driving home the same way he did most nights. Who else you expecting to catch at 2 a.m. other than someone that would have just gotten off of work.

That's the question there. If an ambush, then why? Or as you also mentioned he stumbled upon something meant for someone else? Could it have been a set up for a hijacking? Kidnapping of a female? And he just happened to be the first one there? Also, was he still in his police uniform or was he already changed?

Makes me sick and beyond pissed.

If he was a canine unit officer he probably arrested a lot of scumbags. I hope they find the guy... and I like the way the chief is thinking.

I'm not really familiar with the area is it not a very crowded area at that time of night because around here it wouldn't be that awkward for there to be probably at least one car to three cars coming through an exit ramp every minute or two really. I mean if it were at the top of a street or something that'd be different but ya. I dunno, sure is ballsy and STUPID to kill a police office though.

The area in the picture I saw looked to be kinda out in the country some, but I'm not sure. It did not look to be a very bust area. Jim could enlighten us more.

At that hour all the bars have been closed for awhile and I wouldn't expect there to be much traffic at all at that exit.
