May 25, 201313 yr It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of one of our finest officers. Officer Jason Ellis started his Police career in 2006 at the Bardstown Police Department. He was our K-9 Officer. He was active in the community and quickly earned the respect of his peers. He served Bardstown with dignity and honor. He wore the uniform well and he will be missed more than mere words can express. We ask for your prayers and that you pray for his wife and two children. We cannot express our gratitude to all who have come with open arms and love while supporting us in this most troubling time. May 25, 201313 yr He played college baseball at Cumberland College (now University of the Cumberlands) and he played a year or two in the Cincinnati Reds organization. He was truly a great guy and my prayers are with his wife and 2 boys...RIP Jason
May 25, 201313 yr Ellis was a Cincinnati native, graduating from Glen Este HS, and played baseball at then-Cumberland College before being drafted by the Reds and playing with the Billings club. He was apparently out of his cruiser, believed to be checking on an obstruction on the off ramp at the Bluegrass Parkway's Exit 34 (Ky 55) while on his way home after his shift. There is some talk that it may be a premeditated ambush-type event, but that is not confirmed at this time.
May 25, 201313 yr Here is the story from The Kentucky Standard newspaper in Bardstown. It provides more detail than the TV station reports and clarifies some other things. There will be more updates to follow in the next half-hour or so. Bardstown police office shot and killed “I can assure you, we won’t give up on this person or persons until we have them either in our custody, or in the sights of one of our weapons, and I personally hope the latter is the choice,” Bardstown police chief Rick McCubbin said.
May 25, 201313 yr Scary stuff, really is just horrible. Prayers for his family and friends. Just like others have mentioned I hope and pray they catch these pieces of garbage.
