2013 Freshmen 9th Region Tournament

Featured Replies

I agree with Oldtime. It is a "freshman" tourney. If Beechwood were to bring their studs to the tourney, what is the issue? They are after all freshman. I also agree about the practice of bringing varsity guys down to play in a JV tourney. I remember a couple of years ago when Dixie played Boone in the jv semis and a few (3?) of Boone's guys had different hats and a few of the less athletic looking kids in the dugout were missing jerseys, if you get my drift. Bush league!

Boone moved freshman up so they would have enough kids to play. Numbers were down at the JV level if you can get my drift bush man. The no jersey thing was because of eligibility. Boone moved kids down five years ago to play in the freshman tournament and have never move kids down since. :wtf:

No JR - No SR moved down. All SO where on the JV team. #15 Jon Kelly Rameriez ss Jr, was on that JV team all year.

Now that JV is playing thier tournament, we shouldn`t have to worry about them moving back down.

I may be wrong and if this is the case, I do apologize. I just remember that there were a few bigger, older looking kids in non-matching unis, that I didn't remember from our earlier game. You can see where this may be perceived as bringing Varsity down. Again, if I am indeed wrong, I do apologize.

Apparently you don't appreciate the game and everything that goes into it...

Actually I love the game.Dedicated over 30 years to coaching and scouting.Just stated the obvious.Cant beleive a coach would stack a team to win a freshman tournement and if he does than I think its pretty pathetic. And yes freshman baseball is very hard to watch unless your a parent of one of the players just like womans basketball....agree or disaree its the truth

If they are freshmen, and attend the school they are playing for, how do you interprate that as stacking the team? Is rhere a rule that states if a player reaches a certain level of skill he cant play?

It's not that he can't play. He just shouldn't play. If it makes a coach proud to play his top talent down a level to win, then that's his decision. A dumb one, but that's his decision. How does it sound for little Johnny to brag that "I'm so good, I got to move down from JV to help the developing freshman team win their tournament ." ...................Stupid is as stupid does.

Half this thread is about "bringing kids down" to play in the tournament. Have we confirmed whether any teams are using players that did not play freshman ball all year?

Conner drills Dixie 17-7. Big night for Max Simms who went 4-4 with a HR and 6 RBIs for Conner. Conner advances to the semifinals and will face Ryle on Tuesday at 5 pm at Dixie.

Maybe it is a coincidence, but I have seen Dixie freshman play 4 times the past 2 seasons. In those games I have seen their coach pull their team off the field and forfeit, throw a ball (hard) into his own dugout in disgust, be ejected twice, argue repeatedly over calls, and now tonight scream across the field at the Conner staff after the game for "running" the score up. I don't know him from Adam but the Dixie coach seems to cross the line on occasion.
