I did not watch the game but based on what some business men from Louisville who stayed at the hotel I work at they said the refs did not do either team any favors.

One of the guys was saying that the biggest calls went against Michigan.

What about the Hancock foul that was called on Harrell? Would have been his 4th and to the bench on the next trip down the floor he gets fouled by McGary for his 4 th and he goes to the bench.

Louisville was better & I think was not going to be denied victory, but that was a horrible call.

I think it was before the first TV timeout of the first half, there were two plays that served as a foretaste of the horrible officiating that was to come. On one play, Mitch McGary tackled Peyton Siva. No call. On another play, McGary got fouled by three different UL players & a jump ball was called.

For one of the best played championship games, it may have also been the worst officiated.

I don't think it would have changed the outcome, but I guess we will never know. It was an awful call.

They made some interesting choices on what they decided to let go. On what ended up being one of Behanan's biggest baskets of the night, he grabbed an offensive rebound and got mugged by four different Michigan defenders on his way back up. No call, but Behanan still managed to get the bucket. The paint was just a wrestling match for most of the night. Of course, that's nothing new in college basketball this season.

Agreed. Jay Bilas said as much after the game. Yeah, the Burke call was bad, but Behanan was getting pounded all night in the paint.

To their credit, I don't think there was an incorrect block/charge call all night long. That qualifies as miraculous IMO.

I watched a whole lot of basketball this season and I will be honest, officiating was pretty poor in a lot of big games. The OVC championship game, the final four, UK games, NAIA games, etc. etc. Is there any way to correct this? I'm not blaming the refs but the system clearly isn't completely working.

Are the officials overworked? Should they add a 4th on court official? Should there be more video reviews?

Thoughts?

Did not change anything. Louisville took the lead with about 15 minutes to go and never looked back. Louisville did what they had to do to win the game.

I didn't watch the game, but the replays made it clear as a bell that it was a blown call. However, I would contend that there were a couple of blown fouls at the end of Michigan's semifinal nail-biter against Syracuse that changed momentum in Michigan's favor and did the same thing for Michigan that the blown call did for Louisville in the finals.

I personally felt like that call was the call that created separation. It was still hovering around 1-3 points at that point and then it went up to 6-10 points afterwards. I agree with what the articles are saying as you could feel the momentum change at that time but I'm not prepared to say it changed the outcome of the game.

For the sake of both aesthetics and the general flow of an interesting game, I'm generally not in favor of video replay.

Officials probably are overworked, but I don't think that would have affected last night's game as they had plenty of time before that game.

There were more missed calls in this game than you usually see in a badly officiated high school game.

1. The second foul call on Burke was just wrong and may have had more impact on the game than any other call due the fact that Siva, Smith & Dieng would have probably fouled out if he had played more minutes because they could not keep him out of the lane.

2. The foul on the Burke block of Siva.

3. The no call on the obvious kicked ball by Mich.

4. The no call when McGary was undercut.

5. The traveling call on McGary, that was at the least a tie-up, and at the most a misdemeanor on the Card who was pulling his arm.

6. Siva was leveled once on a drive to the basket with no call.

7. Behanan going over the back on the rebound with under a minute left where the Mich player landed out of bounds.

8. The missed goaltending call that everyone in the building saw except for the 3 guys in stripes.

9. Calling the foul on Harrell instead of Hancock.

10. There were 6 or 7 "dual possessions" that were clearly more obvious than the one called in the semifinals that they allowed the players to wrestle over

11. Behanan was fouled a couple of times before he finally stuck the one put back in.

The refs were bad, but I think the calls evened out over the course of the game.

I agree with all of these...we will never know what would have happened had they been called differently.

#1 on your list was probably in the grand scheme the biggest miss of the night, put Burke on the bench for 14 minutes and took some pressure off of the Cards on defense. Even though his replacement came in and killed (17points) as mentioned above Burke would have put the Cards in foul trouble all by himself.
