Did Foul Call on Burke Change Outcome of Title Game?

Featured Replies

Did it have an impact on the game? Who knows?

It did end the game though. Michigan would have had a chance without that call.

What about all the time left at the end when Michigan could have fouled us? They took too long to send us to the foul line. I think Michigan also had time outs to spare.

I'll say no, and the refs were bad both ways, but the bad calls against Michigan were much bigger IMO.

Burke picking up his second foul on Luke Hancock jumping towards the baseline to shoot what would have been a 3 from behind the backboard was AWFUL.

Hancock's fourth foul was given to Harrell which allowed Luke to stay in the game and subsequently pick up McGary's fourth foul on a similar three point foul.

(As for the plays mentioned above, Hancock walks a tight line on being crafty and drawing a foul vs flopping and not really playing basketball. The one on McGary was a foul IMO but the call on Burke in the corner is all kinds of bad.)

The Burke block on Siva at the rim was big for momentum.

Hopefully the NCAA considers the 'Hancock Rule' this offseason.

I think they just called one of them a few minutes ago.

Yea both plays resulted in three free throws and a key player in foul trouble. Just dumb.

Did I say Michigan didn't make mistakes down the stretch? But keeping it at four points while making such a huge momentum play could have been enough for Michigan to make one last run. Never did I say they would have won or were the better team, nothing I've said isn't true.

It's not basketball to do crap like that. Same thing as flopping in soccer or faking an injury in football to slow down an uptempo team. It's weak.

Don't leave your feet when defending a jump shooter and that won't happen. Change the rule if you want but they were smart plays by a smart player. You see it in the NBA all the time.

Michigan had a chance even with the call. So no, that call didn't "end the game."

Somebody give me an example, other than the Burke foul, where a foul that Hancock drew wasn't warranted...

The one where he faked McGary out was valid. The official anticipated there was going to be a foul on the Burke foul, and it should have been a play on.

I just don't understand why the college game does not go to 6 fouls, then a missed or cheap foul call does not affect the game nearly as much and there would have been very little controversy over this call.:idunno:

They've quit calling it in the NBA unless it is very obvious. Everyone in the world rolls their eyes when that play happens. Watch the one in the corner, that is as bad as it gets. He jumps sideways to make "contact" into Burke.

Agree, It was a terrible call. Burke completely avoided him

The Burke call was bad, but if you fly at a shooter like that and touch him at all, they are probably going to call that. I would.

The shooter jumped sideways to make contact. Complete anticipation of a call and 1000% the wrong call. The one of McGary, definitely. That one, as bad as it gets.
