How about It? Wasn't that Stephen King?
Yes.
Anyone seen this movie? Trying to figure out if I should watch it or not. Stephen King usually makes pretty good movies...Misery, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Christine, Rose Red among others.

Why have you not already seen this movie?

The Shining was the first novel I ever read cover to cover, and it had a huge impact on me. I can remember actually jumping at his description of one scene...and then being amazed at his ability to make that happen on a printed page.

Just as an example of his skill, a few years later, I was reading through the book, trying to find the memorable scene I just mentioned. It happened in one particular room of the hotel, which I think, was 217. Anyway, I looked down to note the page number it was on....it was on page 217!

King's writing is brilliant, and he should be listed among the literary greats. I agree that the film with Jack Nicholson is great, but do yourself a favor and read the book too. :thumb:

Another pretty good book is "Insomnia". I read it a long time ago but remember I really enjoyed it at the time.

Speaking of Stephen King, another one of his novels is being turned into a TV show. Under the Dome. I think it premiers in June. Really enjoyable book.

^ I'm planning to watch that. No way am I going to read 1,000+ pages. :lol2:

To be honest I about did several times but got to thinking that it might not have been any good.

Speaking of reading, I'm not a huge fan of reading, I can't sit still long enough to read something without doing something else

Was actually the first SK novel I read. Then read his Dark Tower series which was mighty swell as well.

I also liked the book and TV movie Desperation. They both were pretty good.

Here are a few not yet mentioned that anyone who wants to read Stephen King should check out. Most of them have been made into films also.

The Dead Zone - excellent read

'Salem's Lot - scared the poop out of me. One of the first SK books I ever read.

Firestarter

The Mist

Needful Things

The Running Man

The Long Walk - using Richard Bachman pen name. One of his best stories, IMO.

There was a recent movie that seemed to be loosely based on the synopsis of "The Long Walk" but I can't recall the title. America has become a police state, one hundred boys are selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life. The rules are simple - maintain a steady walking pace of four miles per hour without stopping. If you get three warnings, you are out and there is only one survivor.

I read pretty much everything SK wrote for several years; probably until The Dark Tower stuff.

Have to agree on The Shining - great book, great movie. Stand By Me was a personal favorite as well.

If there's one SK movie to avoid, it's "Thinner". Not very good at all.

I also liked the book and TV movie Desperation. They both were pretty good.

Desperation's partner novel, The Regulators -- written under his pseudonym Richard Bachman -- is one of the most depressing things I've ever read. Like Thomas Hardy in a science fiction universe. But it's ultimately really good too.

I had zero intention of watching this show, but now knowing that it's based off of a Stephen King novel, that might change my attitude towards it.

Maybe I am thinking of The Hunger Games, but I thought it was something else. Anyone?
