April 7, 201313 yr How about this for an endorsement: it's one of the finest movies ever made. To my mind, it's one of the few examples where a movie outclasses the book on which it's based. That's mostly a testament to Stanley Kubrick's singular genius. I can't recommend this enough. What Getslow said. Everything about this movie is great. Acting, casting, direction, cinematography, music, etc. It is a film that is mental, as well as visceral. I've read a great many of Stephen King's books, as well as the compilations of short stories. As to the movies, I also like Carrie and Christine.
April 8, 201313 yr I had no idea King had a hand in Shawshank or Secret window. Those two along with The Shining are three of my favorites.
April 8, 201313 yr I read pretty much everything SK wrote for several years; probably until The Dark Tower stuff. Have to agree on The Shining - great book, great movie. Stand By Me was a personal favorite as If there's one SK movie to avoid, it's "Thinner". Not very good at all. You got no business with us white man from town and we got no business from you, go away.
April 8, 201313 yr I had no idea King had a hand in Shawshank or Secret window. Shawshank came from a novella King had done called Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. Secret Window is also from a King novella called Secret Garden.
April 8, 201313 yr I will give a shoutout to "Storm of the Century". Now that creeped me out. :scared:

April 9, 201313 yr Stand By Me is one of my top favorites along with Misery. I've watched Stand By Me loads of times, but didn't read the novella until last year. Never seen the movie Apt Pupil, but the story was awesome too. Apt Pupil and Stand By Me (the story is called The Body) are a collection of novellas published as Different Seasons, which also has The Shawshank Redemption and The Breathing Method. The Breathing Method is supposed to be made into a movie I think. I thought Apt Pupil was pretty solid as a movie. Ian McKellen was great in it.
April 9, 201313 yr Author Shutter Island book is better than the movie, but the movie's still good. Shutter Island is a good movie but it sure did confuse me. I didn't know if the guy was their at that Island all along and just imagining that he was a detective or if he was really a detective and they lured him their on purpose.
