Holmes 62 Covington Catholic 60

Probably 7000+ at the game. One of the floor security told me that's what he would estimate (not official, I know). He said this is the largest he has seen for a high school event and he's been at all of them since it opened. the largest crowd he has seen was the UL/NKU game the frist year as was already stated. Regardless great crowd. BOK gets concessions, tix, and parking, pays all personnel including officials, clock etc. The region gets a guarnateed 55K whether one or or 7000 show up at the sessions. A pretty good win/win for both. the only odd thing tonight is they didn't let schools presale for the game. That would have helped the long lines prior to the game.

Many of the key points I would make have been well covered above but I will add some comments:

- As others have said, the defense by #15 Housley on Ruthsatz was exceptional. Someone commented above that Ruthsatz should have taken more 3's in the second half but he got no open looks and Housley was a very big reason why.

- Unsung star of the game for CCH is Clyde's favorite Sawyer Pauley. He also was exceptional on defense, did a great job when guarding Bolden and played a very smart offensive game. I can see why Clyde always comments on him after watching his game in this one.

- On the Ruthsatz drive and dish, it was the right play by Ruthsatz. If he tries to shoot that, Chames was ready to send it to the front row. Ruthsatz is as sharp as they come at the point. I can't recall a bad decision by him all night. He had to have a couple turnovers as much as he handled the ball but I can't remember any. When CCH had 26, Ruthsatz had 14 as he wasn't missing. That is another reason why Housley's play was so big because early in the game it was starting to look like Ruthsatz might to lead CCH to a route.

- Someone asked about the impact of the officials, I thought two of the three refs were excellent. The balding ref made a number of bad calls but they were bad for both teams so the game impact was minimized.

- I agree with the poster who commented on Chames and especially his play in the final minutes. He was the man down the stretch for Holmes.

- As others have said, #14 Herndon, wow, how do you come into that game for the first time, cold in the 4th quarter and do what that kid did at the foul line and handling the ball with confidence. Very impressive.

- On Coach Listerman getting the T, I don't fault him for going down there to see what infomercial Coach Ruthsatz was trying to sell to the officials. You never want to let the other coach get the officials' ear for that long without giving your point of view. Obviously, Coach Listerman went a little overboard or dropped a magic word in there somewhere.

- Finally, I can't wait to watch that last 4 minutes again. Pure high school basketball action with both teams laying it all on the line. It was a lot of fun at the BOK tonight. Congrats to CCH on the effort and best wishes to Holmes down state versus a very tough first round opponent.

The 09 final was around 6900 if my memory is correct.

Have talked to "Mac and Satz" many times over a plate of biscuits and gravy at the Anchor Grill in Covington.

Come on down and meet us this Friday, After Midnight ....

Hey Tbirds, I know it's not "down on the farm" on Friday morning, but maybe FTM can meet PHM. I'll look for the painter tomorrow and you maybe get some wings for lunch and see what we can do. Maybe even maybe we can can get Sweep involved.

In the other thread the number for that 2009 final was 6,615. It seemed to me like there were more at the BOK tonight than there was for that 2009 final game.

I'll have highlights from both teams up sometime tomorrow.

Holmes is the only team in the Sweet 16 this year that was a district runner-up.

Wrong, South Oldam was a runner up also.

Thanks Panda and thanks for not highlighting my pic with the lovely lady pre game. You are one of the classiest guys to be around. You do so much for the kids and fans in the 9th.

Lots of discussion on this play. I obviously had a pretty good view.
