While I would hate to see these schools consolidate, one would think this could be a way for the young people in these schools to have an opportunity to excel academically. Truth be told, I don't have a clue what goes on at Newport, Bellevue and Dayton, but seeing that two of the three are on the priority list, something is not right. Hopefully things can work out for all parties, one way or the other.

I have no idea on the whole consolidation rumor, however I was told by a senior administrator several years ago before the economy slowed that Campbell County would most definitely be opening a new high school in the northern part of the county in the near future. While the economy is still very poor, the new Arcadia subdivision in Alexandria appears to be underway. This will bring another 1500 or so homes to the area and will require the school board to make some decisions in the next few years.

But I agree with the point about silver grove needing to close. Being open with 10 per grade isn't fiscally, academically, or frankly even socially responsible to the youth of the city.

The only way this happens is if the state mandates those schools to combine. They will never choose to do it on their own. There is way too much community pride in Dayton and Bellevue.

There is no way this happens unless two things were to happen, as the way the KRS is now. # 1 The districts agree, along with Campbell County, to consolidate. Not likely all or any would do it or if Campbell would do it. Scenario #2, the independent district goes into fiscal unsustainability and then Cambell County must take them. I do not think any of them are in that situation, prior to that the state would take them over first and make the necessary changes (usually cutting personnel and programs and/or dealing with any mismanagement of funds). The only way would then be with state financial oversight, local and state revenue can not support minimum services (almost always a significant decline in student enrollment), then they would close the district and Campbell County would absorb the students. Probably the only district even close (and I doubt that) would be Silver Grove. Academically, the state could replace the board and assign a state appointed Superintendent and see if things can change in that arena. These three districts are far from being to that point academically.

Yes Anchorage Independent Schools in Oldham County

Anchorage is in Jefferson County. Their children go to several private schools or Manual, Male, or Ballard after 8th grade.

They still own the land 100 year lease to someone.

 

Not sure that is correct. According to the CCPVA since 1978 someone else has owned it. Just sayin!
