Same here, joined as a junior in high school to post for our basketball team and I've been here every since. That was in 2004, we all thought it was such an awesome idea to have your high school team covered on a website, even if it was just a forum. Seems crazy nowadays with the way social media and internet coverage has blew up, but at that time if it wasn't in the newspaper, late news highlight clip, or Sports Overtime, your team didn't get any recognition. Back in those days I was pretty much just a high school sports poster, its funny because now I hardly ever venture to those forums and that was the whole reason I originally joined.

The worst thing about growing up here: I know that there are some old posts of mine in those archives I'm now hugely embarrassed about. I was not in any way smart at age 19 or 20.

I'd say being a part of BGP has shaped my current mentality. I've grown up mentally because of BGP. I've aged and matured while still being able to maintain the immaturity that needs to escape me sometimes. I've learned to respect different thoughts and beliefs and sharpen my sarcasm as well. I was 32 when I joined so while I may not have 'grown up' on BGP in some ways I have grown up on BGP.

 

And Randy Parker will tell you I am growing out on BGP.

I started in '01 w/ my brothers. We shared the same name to support the youngest of us and his NewCath football team. I was a senior in college.

We eventually got kicked off and I started as Mexitucky after I moved to Mexico in August of '03. In that time, lived in Merida for a year, survived a hurricane and 2 weeks w/out electricity and running water there. Came home, got a job, got a girlfriend w/ twins, started law school, lost my Grandma on Monday and my Grandpa on Tues (still pretty crazy), got married, graduated law school, had Charlotte, adopted my boys, and am still at my original job.

About 2 yrs for me so did not grow up on BGP, but did grow thicker skin.

It's hard to believe that I've been on here for 6 years already. Time flies.

Part of the best BGP recruiting class of all time, the January 2005 bunch. :lol:

That would include me. Joined as leatherneck in April of 01, 5 months after Rob started the site, but actually joined under a different name earlier than April of 01. Proving that I have grown old on here, I don't remember the prior name I used. Very shortly after Rob started the site, a fellow Highlands fan told me about the site and I joined up. Don't recall the circumstances as to why my user name changed either. Yes, I've certainly grown old on here. But growing older certainly beats the only other alternative, so I'll take it.

 

Still read a lot but certainly don't post nearly as often as I did when my sons were in high school and when I was on the Board of Control. I guess some would say the "principal" retired. Been a long time since I hauled anyone into my office.

I definitely have grown up on BGP. Joined in August of 2001, a little more than a year after being "reborn" in every way a person can be reborn. Pretty much my entire "new life" has been intertwined, one way or another, with BGP. All of the people I consider my closest friends have come to me through this site.

 

I feel like I've changed so much since those earliest days, and truly have matured in many ways -- at least, I hope so anyway. I was socially backward and naive about a lot of things in those days. The social aspect of BGP, as well as the in person encounters it has afforded, have taught me a lot. I hope to be a part of this great place for a long time to come!

As one on the opposite end I still find it odd to have some of the young turks call me "Mr" when they see me. Once you're past 21 that has to end.
