January 9, 201313 yr The Dallas Cowboys have released defensive coordinator Rob Ryan on Tuesday evening, according to a source. Ryan had one year remaining on a three-year contract. The Cowboys defense finished 19th overall, 17th against the run and 21st against the pass. "I inherited a team that was 31st in the league in defense and made them better," Ryan told ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon. "I (expletive) made them a hell of a lot better. I'll be out of work for like five minutes. Rob Ryan fired as Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator - ESPN Dallas
January 9, 201313 yr I think it was a bad move on Dallas' par to let him go. Rob Ryan has proven to be a pretty good Defensive Coordinator in this league.
January 9, 201313 yr Jason Garrett apparently fired him over the phone while Ryan is on vacation. Classy.
January 9, 201313 yr That's a great quote. Yes it is. Jason Garrett apparently fired him over the phone while Ryan is on vacation. Classy. Wow
January 9, 201313 yr I don't know who is providing the color commentary in the Ohio State/Purdue game, but he just took a shot at Ryan, saying he should stop spending all of his time "swearing on the sidelines" and start coaching his team.
January 9, 201313 yr Author ^ he is a little expressive of how he feels. However, I don't think he's not coaching and just cursing. It's up to the Dallas players to make plays and on many occasions they did not.
January 9, 201313 yr It makes a lot of sense, IMO. Rob and Rex both believe in a 3-4 and Dallas' personnel fits a 4-3 better. It did under Wade as well. There is no reason DeMarcus Ware should EVER be in coverage, but he was an OLB in this scheme. I think this is a good change for Dallas. Rob is right- he will get a gig pretty quick. Is it coincidence that the Jets fired their d-coordinator today?
January 9, 201313 yr Based on the quote & other times I heard the guy talk he sounded like a complete jerk. Maybe his sideline demeanor et al had to do with the firing as well as the points Born to Reign made. If he lands with his bro in NY maybe they will fight on the sidelines like their old man OR maybe Buddy will show up & punch them both. Now, that would be worth watching.
January 9, 201313 yr After stopping the Bengals on a critical 3rd down, 4th quarter play in the red zone, Ryan picked up an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for cussing out Andre Smith. Automatic 1st down. (The Bengals being the Bengals settled for a field goal anyway). If Dallas had lost that game Jerry Jones might have fired him on the ride home.
January 9, 201313 yr Who is going to get all the TV face time for the 'boys on the sidelines with Ryan gone?
January 9, 201313 yr Author Who is going to get all the TV face time for the 'boys on the sidelines with Ryan gone? More Jerry Jones camera time.
