I'm not saying that knees going past the toes is incorrect, because for a large part of the population that is true. But it really depends on femur length. People with longer legs generally can not properly squat to depth without the knees coming past the toes.

Good to know! I'm trying all different variations of leg width and such where I can still "feel the burn" of the excercise.

I'll get there, with a little help from my BGP fitness experts! :thumb:

Don't worry about the "burn" yet. Get the form down, build strength, and then make adjustments once you have the groove for your body.

Off day. This thread has been great for my motivation.

And I too believe Smith Machines should be put to death. Worst invention ever.

I think it has more to due with flexibility issues then leg length. I'm only 5'9" and I struggle with it until I get warmed up and stretched out, hips and ankles.

I will throw my hat in the ring on beating the crap out of the inventor of the smith machine.

It's funny that you all mention that about the smith machine because today I decided not to use it to do my squat bc I just wasn't feeling it today. I feel like I'm falling over forward sometimes when I do it.

There are many reason for knees to shoot over the toes. Femur length, hip and ankle mobility, breathing patterns, t-spine issues, stance.

Take me for instance...I attribute much of my knee pain to being forced to squat on the SMITH MACHINE while in high school. All things bad begin and end with Mr. Smith and his machine.

Just ordered mine today, how have you liked it so far?

Love it. I have rarely missed a double with it. Set a PR with 110 in a row the first night I used it.

110? I went to Simon Kenton we can't count past 20 unless we've got family their with us. :irked: I'm looking forward to it, jump rope is one of my favorite things in the gym but the gym rope was just so cruddy/tangled that I couldn't take it any more.

Had 2 4+ mile runs while in San Antonio this week on work. Ran along the San Antonio river and Alamo. Awesome place to run! Plus the 70 degree weather made it even better.

This morning was 5/3/1 deadlift and front sqsquat.

tonight we did reps of 50-40-30-20-10 of kettlebell swings (53#) and double unders.

I did 5/3/1 squat deload last night. I was coming off a 24 hour bug so I didn't want to do EDT and crush my immune system.

50 single leg squats

100 leg curls

50 sit ups

50 hanging leg raises.

Swam w/ Charlotte for about an hour, well not swam, played in the pool. On a side note, Don Weber of NKY sports fame was there at the pool. He and I spoke about the good old days for quite awhile. Pretty cool.

Good stuff. When he got out of the pool to leave did he look at you and say "I'm Don Weber saying so long for now?" Lol

No, but Trip was there and he NEVER blinked.
