Little beat from the weekend. I ran 17 miles on Saturday and ran 8 with my wife yesterday. 25 for a weekend is a long way to travel. This morning's swim workout I backed off a little but it was still good to get in the water. Tonight at my circuit training class I know I am going to be dragging.

If I ever NEED to run 17 miles...I'm screwed.

I played basketball for 2 hours last night and I'm hurting all over

The first workout of the CrossFit Games open will be announced on Wednesday (I think 7:00pm my time). Getting pretty anxious to see what they come up with.

I'm right there with you. If I'm ever trying to run 17 miles it's because someone's after me and I'm out of bullets. I think my knees would start to turn to jello after 5 and by 10 they'd be pure liquid.

I'm thinking I might try them just to see where I stack up. Do you have to belong to a crossfit gym to participate or are they just the sponsors?

To submit scores you either have to have someone that has completed the online judges course submit for you or video yourself doing the workout and submit the video with your score. I believe the certified judge has to belong to a crossfit affiliate. Most affiliates will do this for you for no charge.

The problem with doing the workouts at a regular gym or at home is your gym or you probably won't have the equipment to do all of the movements. Not too many regular gyms have wall balls or a 10ft target setup to hit with it. Bumper plates are also normally recommended versus metal weight plates.

Nah, you could do it. I have worked to where I am today and had all the same ailments everyone else does in my starting stages (knees, shin splints, etc.). Just remember that we are all Born to Run, just tapping in to it is the key.

Saturday's weather sucked. 15 mph North winds and around 30-35 degrees during my 17 miler. The problem was that I actually got hot when I turned away from the wind and begun sweating, turned around and was freezing.

Most I've ran at once was 12 miles, and it almost killed me.

I don't run that much now. I ran quite a bit around 2 years ago and my feet started killing me when I ran. Once I quit, I was never able to really get motivated to run much after that.

I don't have the 1. desire and 2. attention span to run much more then 6 or 7, and that's pushing it big time. I think I've run 7 miles 1 time.

I can't think of any point in time that I've ever ran more than a few miles, never had the desire to.

Today's workout wasn't too bad. Went lite and high reps and just got after it. Off work so I got to the gym around 2 and the HS kids were in there. Had to give some pointers about spotting people when they're using dumb bells for bench press, as I've seen a couple of guys have someone push their elbow up and the guys lost control and fractured their cheek bone when the weight landed on their face. The young fella's seemed rather appreciative of the advice and said they'd prefer to keep their face as is. I love working out.

I never had any desire to either. Just my obsessive compulsive and oddly driven personality. I vowed to never touch a weight or run unless my life depended upon it after high school. Once I did start to work out though, I could only go about 300 yards without stopping. It just slowly and slowly built and I couldn't (still can't) get it out of mind that if I take off I will lose it all in no time; thus, I go unfulfilled knowing I can do a little more. I know it is not the case, but I go psycho sometimes if I cannot fulfill that workout and long endurance burn. You have to be semi-stupid to do some of the crap I do. :D

Indoor soccer game was at 11:10 last night, whiskey tango foxtrot (thank you, Q).

Off day

Tomorrow

5/3/1 Bench superset sets of 20 shrugs

Simple Strength Incline 3x8

Super set band pull aparts

Lateral Raises 3 sets 20

Tricep Ext 15x, 12x, 10x, 8x

Neck machine 3x25

10 minute jump rope

50-40-30-20-10 Double unders.

Ran 5 miles for the first time tonight. Ran it in 49:58 not 17 miles but for me it's good.

8 hrs until they announce WOD 13.1 for the CrossFit Games open. Lots of speculation that it will be a repeat of the 7min burpee WOD from last year.

In 2011 they had 26,000 people compete in the Open and last year 69,000. This year over 100,000 people have registered.

This is where I'm at. I ran cross country in high school. Did races, several minis, and 3 full marathons through my twenties and thirties. Life and kids got in the way and I got away from working out for a few years. Have gone out and tried a little running here and there, but just not interested anymore. Kind of have this "been there, done that" mentality that I can't get past.

Really enjoying my new way of working out, combining strength-cardio-abs circuits at a high intensity level for half hour to 45 minute durations. That's my new thing, and that's what works for me now.

Maybe in a couple months when the weather is nice, running will appeal to me again.
