Good grief. How many D1 baseball players has Danville produced? It's high school sports, PLAY EVERYTHING! 99% of all players are done playing when the final out is made in high school. And for the record...NOBODY gets a full baseball scholarship. There are 11 or so baseball scholarships divided up amongst the 30+ players on a division 1 baseball team. 85 FULL scholarships available at division 1 football level. If yo uare going to "work year round"...your best opportunity would be to invest the time in football. Just one persons observed opinion.

And to go further, Paul Morse has produced multiple D-1 baseball players that didn't attend Danville also.

No one does. And that's far from the issue at Danville as some have claimed. No one at Danville is stopping or persuading anyone to not play football. The issues at Danville are deeper than that. As the next coach will find out soon enough. Or they keep Coach Perry and well....he knows what the issues are. He's seen them the last 5 years.

Me neither. I love to see kids excel in more than one sport, but there is alot of kids who don't play multiple sports and its a coaches job to give those kids as much of a chance to become the best they can be.

 

Just like a football player has to hit the weights in the off season to be good, a baseball player has to be in the batting cage and work in the off season to be good, or a basketball player has to get in the gym and get up shots in the off season to be good. Doesn't matter what sport it is now a days you have to put the work in the off season to be successful in season.

Not me. They need a clean slate IMO. IMO if they hire Perry then they are taking the easy way out. I'd like to see them make a concerted effort to make changes as opposed to just settling for the familiar face that has a few years left until he retires. The Danville program needs to be shaken up from Little League to high school IMO. I hope they review every application and look and choose who will be best for Danville going forward. I hope it isn't already a done deal that Coach Perry is taking over. If so, good luck to Danville and I hope I am wrong. Danville needs an injection of freshness and if Coach Perry brings that then that will be good. I'm just not sure if the community will rally around him. I fear they'll lose the community altogether if someone new isn't brought in.

It is just ridiculous for any coach in any sport to talk about giving up one sport to "focus" exclusively on another. When I think of baseball across the state, Danville does not come to mind.

It's already been disclosed that he never said to give up one sport for the other.

 

I believe they are Rob Caudill-Wake Forest and Andrew Lasure-East Tennessee State.

 

He also produced non Danville Admiral D-1 talent like Jacob Bodner-Xavier University, Clay Cinnamon-Miami University, Matthew Honchel-Miami University who was one of the top freshmen in his conference, Duran Elmore-Morehead State, Rich Witten-Coastal Carolina and Aaron Watts-Morehead State. And that's just off the top of my head. There are many many more.

Mutli/3 sport athletes always seem to be better than the guys who work only on one, IMHO.

 

Especially football and baseball guys. I've never seen a good baseball player who wasn't a good football player, especially catcher/pitcher/QB's. Seems like if they are good in one, chances are they are good at the other.

I don't know if Rich Witten was one or not but he had a heck of a career at Coastal Carolina (a solid baseball program). He is director of baseball operations now at Central Florida and he may have a played a year of pro ball.

Coach Perry was a GREAT head coach at Garrard County... There is no reason to think he wouldn't be great at Danville, if he wants the job. From my limited knowledge of the situation, it seems Danville has always struggled to maintain quality coaching STAFFS. There have always been on or two quality assistants, but the rest seemed to be para-professionals with ties to the program and questionable credentials. You have to have coaches at a program to have success, not guys who coach.
