Sam Harp leaving Danville

Featured Replies

I hate to see him go :D, no seriously I do hate to see him go. I was on the chain crew for a Danville / Southwestern game a few years ago and it was a joy to be right beside him the entire night and see how he coached a game.

Coach Perry was named the Coach in waiting a few years back. Don't know if that still stands or not.

There is just as many kids who have gave up baseball just to play football over the last few years. This not just happening at Danville, happening all over. The kids who play multiple sports are alot less than it was several years ago and if they do they give up alot. Pretty much all sport have become year around now. I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not, but it sure hurts the sports at the smaller schools.

Also heard Griag Yeast and Clay Clevengers names brought up tonight. Both have alot of ties to the area.

Dumb parents and selfish coaches who press kids to focus on only one sport are the issue. Kids will do what they are encouraged to do more times than not.

You are right. We had a kid a few years back that was going to be a Possible All-State Baseball Player based on his baseball potential. He decided to play Football to stay in shape for Baseball. Four years later he signed a Div 1 Scholarship offer to play in the SEC...in Football.

I suspect Clevenger's name will come up. I also wonder if Danville might look to Craig Foley at Frankfort. He has done terrific things at a school similar in size and makeup of Danville.

I'm also curious as to who will end up with the Athletic Director's position at Danville. I can't really think of any coaches currently in their athletic program who would seem like a logical fit in the AD position, other than perhaps Paul Morse. I believe Morse would be good in the position, with his athletic and business background, but he doesn't teach and I have no clue what type of degree he would have for the job, or if he would even be interested.

If I am a AD I would not much care for the way he left but with all the good he did there on the field it would be hard to be mad

I'm sure the AD didn't mind at all.

Just to clear up the speculation of how he left please read this article. Anyone that knows Sam knows he always put his team first.Danville superintendent says coach Sam Harp told her three weeks ago he might be leaving - centralkynews.com

Good post! Thanks for clearing this up. I am sure his thoughts were that he didn't want the banquet about him, he wanted it about kids.

The Danville program has been in a bit of rut really for about 6 years now (ever since I moved here :madman: )

I think it will be good to bring in some fresh blood and generate some new excitement. Best wishes to Coach Harp though. He's a great guy and has done great things for the Ads.

so who are the serious candidates. I think that C. Smith and D. Hilton can be ruled out, so who does that leave. Someone on staff, someone from outside, what do the people of Danville want. An alum who has gone away and develop themselves or what?

How attractive is this job right now?

I'm not sure. We have a Superintendent that has only been here a few years and a new Principal. I hope they are really comitted to the football program and make it attractive enough to get a proven Coach. At this point I'm not sure. I just hope who ever it is, comes in with the attitude to create more physical and mental toughness, with a big part of that making players comit to the weight room. A organized serious weight program is needed to start to get Danville back to where they want to be.

Is in school weightlifting not going on at Danville anymore? If not, bc it use to be, it's hard to get your multi sport athletes into a year round weight program.

And please, some of you on here (not you, Thin) who like to put on your academic hat, don't hijack the thread getting on your school beliefs. This was just an honest question.

My understanding the weight program had diminished. I'm talking about going to the weight room with purpose, something structured and the players comitted to getting bigger and stronger, not just going in and playing around and come if you want to. The proof is in the pudding. Danville had some size this year but they didn't show any strength by being able to dominate the line of scrimmage against the better teams they played. They used to have running backs who ran over people. In the recent past they have had some good backs with speed and agility but no strength to break tackles and run through people.

I believe Danville has new weight room so a structured weight program is needed to utilize the new toys properly. Can anyone confirm that they have a new weight room?

Is Shadon Brown a serious candidate? A buddy of mine said that Shadon Brown SHOULD be the next coach at Danville and it has over 40 'likes' last I saw. Will Shadon put in for it and would he have a realistic chance at that job?
