A nice night of sleep for a little perspective...

 

First things first: couldn't help but smile when opening up the Louisville page on ESPN.com this morning and seeing nothing but green Ws. No doubt about it: all-around, it's a fun time to be a Cardinals fan.

 

But it was close. I said in the prediction thread that Louisville was going to have to score 38 to win. Turned out it was 34. I could repeat what other people have said about Munchie's throwing ability so I won't delve back into that... too much. If that guy could throw, this would look a lot more like the UC teams of the past few years.

 

I said after the UK game that Louisville's special teams would cost them a win sometime this season. It should have cost us the game last night. The kickoffs continue to be a problem; UC's average starting position had to be about the 30 or 35 yard line. Kai Dominguez still can't field a punt. That said, given our placekicker woes the last few years, it's nice to have a really solid field goal kicker that, within about 40 yards, I trust almost absolutely when he walks in. His only miss last night was that 57-yarder that I still don't understand why they had him take at the end of the first half. Nice game, Wallace.

 

Well, the UofL weekend continues. Time to shower up then head downtown for some lunch and a beer on Main Street ahead of the men's basketball scrimmage.

Does this win put U of L in the top 10?

 

I can't imagine. But it should put them squarely in that top 15. I think Georgia, Mississippi State and Texas Tech are all going to take losses today and they're all ranked above Louisville. I have serious doubts as to which -- if any -- of those teams Louisville is actually better than, but rankings aren't perfect and they tend to reward getting wins with considerably less regard for who those wins are against or how they come about. So whatever.

 

At this point, the BCS rankings could conceivably matter a great deal for Louisville as there's a serious likelihood that Rutgers could lose on that road trip to UC in a few weeks and Louisville could lose at Rutgers at the end of the season. Assuming (and hoping for) no additional trip-ups for any of those teams anywhere else along the way, in such a three-way tie, the team with the highest BCS ranking gets that champion's bid to the Orange/Sugar/Whatever bowl.

UC is simply a team with a very small margin for error. Munchie throwing 3 INTs makes it nearly impossible for them to beat a team with a QB like Bridgewater.

 

That said, I'd be pretty concerned as a UL fan with the holes they have on ST and D. RDA4 was chewing up yards every kick return and Winn gashed UL on the ground quite a bit right at the point of attack. When you are weak in 2/3 of the game, the magic has a tendency to run out at the most inopportune time. Teddy is fantastic and made some absurdly good throws down the field, but the Cards are playing with fire as the season winds down IMO...

They've been playing with fire all season. That they are 8-0 at this juncture is what is so confounding. I believe the team has supreme confidence in Teddy B to deliver late. With Rutgers' loss on Saturday, UL is the only undefeated team in the Big East.

And there is no question Teddy B is on a level that few other QBs in the country can match. He can flat out put the ball on a dime in pressure situations...

Prior to many results on Saturday, I didn't think so. After the turnouts from some of the games, highly possible. Teams ahead that lost last night consisted of Rutgers, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, USC, Oklahoma, and Oregon State. After the results, a rating at #10 is very possible; I wouldn't think anything under 11.

It seems that the Louisville fans on here are a lot different than they were a few years ago when some were saying they would be very good for a long time. Very cocky was what I thought of when reading the comments. They had Bhrom(sp) who was a great QB and had a ton of talent. In the end they couldn't get it done. The dynasty they thought they were going to have didn't happen.

After going 8-0 now they are not so cocky anymore. They support the Cardinals like they should but not with the chest beating like before. I might be able to pull for them now. Right or wrong I got so turned off by how most on here acted I wouldn't pull for them after that. IMO I don't think they will ever be a threat every year to win a title because I think Louisville is a stepping stone for good coaches. With that said I wish the SEC would have asked Louisville to be a member instead of the two they got.

Bush had over 100 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first half of the first game before he was injured. IMO, he still isn't (and at this point never will be) as good as he was, and he's still an NFL running back. With him, Louisville beats Rutgers and plays tOSU for the title. Now, were they really better than Florida that year? I'm not sure on that score, but they would have been in the title game ahead of them, and I do think they were better than that Buckeye team.

Thanks for the info. Is there any chance that Lousiville will be asked to move to the SEC? I for one would like to see it then it wouldn't be a stop over for coaches. The big East is killing Louisville.
