I understand that. I am just trying to understand why UL wouldn't be a fit. I understand that football is the SEC's strength, bit that isn't UK's strength. If you take into account the "non revenue" sports, top to bottom, UL is a top notch athletic choice. Is it academics? And is the gap that wide, if so? I read a lot about how UL wouldn't bring anything to the table. But I can't figure out exactly what it is that they lack, other than not having been in a "power" football conference. They arguably play in the toughest basketball conference and compete well. Their non revenue sports regularly compete for conference championships. I am just trying to understand.

UL's market is half of Louisville. Kentucky's market is the other half of Louisville and the remainder of the state. It has nothing to do with how good or bad UK or UL is in football unless they had some kind of national or regional appeal. And they do not.

There's only one measurable, meaningful statistic in all this expansion nonsense: the number of eyeballs glued to TV sets. And in that area, Louisville brings extremely little to the table.

Make it 25% UK (which I presume it is at least that high) and whatever % UL, my premise still applies.

Your error isn't in assessing Louisville's quality. It's in imagining that the quality has anything to do with this expansion at all. This is about television markets and nothing else. Louisville's media reach is too small to be worth much money to the conferences we're talking about.

First and foremost it's because UK is and has already been in the SEC forever......if there were a rule for a new "tossup", we wouldn't have to be concerned.....that's not reality. U of L controls their ultimate destiny by winning football games...if they falter? The future may not be what they want. If they take care of business? There is no reason for concern.
