Whackem'n'Stackem'
Yeah, he took one shot up high near his head (from the side), and I was sure he wouldn't get up from it. But he popped right up as if nothing ever happened. He's just an awesome football player, IMO.
Sweeperboy
Birds played as well as I expected. Disappointment of the game is Highlands not getting the TD before half. That was big imo. FWIW, a little Birdie told me after the game that ole Joe Frank did his last Highlands game ever as a referee. Just sayn..................
hoosierbirdfan
Birds came up short tonight and it was not from lack of effort or preparation. I believe the effort tonight showed the Birds are not afraid of anyone. McCoy is as tuff as a middle linebacker, always takes the hard hits and pops right back up. Harris is built like a fullback and has the speed and cuts like a scat back. Siedel is the fastest frog that I have ever seen running back kickoff returns. All the players on both teams played their hearts out, just like I expected.Refs were letting them play tonight for sure(this is not an excuse), but in my opinion lots of obvious holding calls were missed. I enjoyed watching this game, strictly for the fact that both teams left it all on the field tonight.Anyone that thought this game didn't mean much to Elder, wasn't watching the team reaction of the Elder sideline after a big play. Believe me, Elder was very concerned at halftime with the score tied at 10-10, considering the harbin cow was giving them a fight. I'm a proud Bird fan, even after this loss, just because they played their hearts out and played hard to the end. The Elder Panthers might not put it in the headlines, but after tonight I'm sure they have a lot of respect for the Birds. If your a 4A ky school and hate Highlands, enjoy tonight, especially if you have to play the Birds down the road.

Clyde
BTW congrats on the 28-game win streak. Impressive to say the least.
Clyde
My guess is Dale is disappointed but he's also pleased with the timing of this game after having to play Harrison , Holmes, and Pendleton in successive weeks.
Voice of Reason
I haven't seen many holding penalties called all year. I have seen a couple of plays where guys were having their jerseys pulled off their back and still no hold called. It seems to me like refs just aren't calling it. Great effort by the Birds. Just fell a little short at the end. I think Highlands proved they can play with anyone and their recent wins versus GCL teams weren't flukes. I know that isn't what the Bird nation is looking for and you want nothing but a win. But sometimes when you play teams on this level you just get beat, you say great job and then get ready for next week.
madman
Is Ohio football that much better than Ky? I don't know what Elder was ranked but they beat Ky's #2 team by 14.

Overall, it's not close between the two states. Elder is about 5th in Cincinnati.
tdyballgame
So that was Joe Frank. That's a real shame there. Did anybody hear the Birds chant after Dale spoke with them on the field after the game. Got to love it!

To add to this and the other comments, the big difference is depth. In KY each class has one or two or maybe three really good teams. Ohio could have as many as 15 or 20 good teams in each class. To put things in perspective, if Highlands played in Ohio they would be a top ten team every year in their own class but almost every year there would be a handful of teams in their class capable of beating them. In other words, there are a lot of "Highlands" in Ohio.

Elder and the GCL schools are 2 or 3 classes above Highlands and the Birds are hanging right there with them.
