Obama Romney 10/16 Debate #2 Discussion

Featured Replies

Although Obama won the debate, the CNN poll is saying the voters who watched thought Romney won on the key individual issues. Weird that they think Romney won on the issues but lost the debate. I really think that in the eyes of voters the Libya exchange won the debate for Obama and without that exchange, Romney won the debate.

I want to see Shawn Hannity and Racheal Maddow debate each other and ask the candidates questions in a debate.

Actually maybe Racheal Madcow and Laura Ingram would be a better debate.

CNN poll has Obama winning 46% to 39%.

The other 15% is looming larger and larger.

They just showed the Rose Garden speech on CNN and it backs up Obama. If you listen to the comments, he said "No act of terror" would be allowed and that the US would bring to justice those who committed this act. Even though there was the 2 weeks of back and forth and Obama avoided calling it a terrorist attack, he does slide by with those comments.

Also, everyone is hammering Candy for backing the act of terror claim but she also called out the president that he did not clearly declare it a terrorist attack for two weeks.

Only if you're willing to be made a fool of by your president. I'm not. Two weeks of lying does not allow him to "slide by" me.

Did Candy Crowley issue a statement saying she was wrong? I heard a talking head, maybe Hannity, say that last night.

Obama's lousy first debate contributes to this as well.

Yes. Now Crowley is saying she was wrong....

Well it's to late now the horse is out of the barn. I think the moderators have a difficult job but she was way out of line last night. I thought after that exchange Romney lost some of his edge and basically lost debate. If she stays out of it and Romney calls Obama out I think he is considered the winner.

However, I think this eventually plays well for Romney. The next debate is on foriegn affairs and everyone is gonna know that Obama lied about this event. Romney is sure to hammer him on it next week.

Probably not gonna happen.

Women are supposed to be home cooking supper for the menfolk.

I like how he said Mitt was a successful businessman and wouldn't accept a proposal that doesn't say where the money to take care of his possible 8 trillion dollar deficit will come from and that the American people shouldn't accept it either.

Nice move.

I'm definitely a Romney supporter, but this was a brilliant tactic by Obama.

I'm newer to following politics seriously and really diagnosing these debates, but why is a moderator interjecting any points, whether right or wrong, and back any comments made by either candidate? That was completely uncalled for in my opinion and she should be embarassed. Seemed like she let her personal feelings and emotions get inolved.

Romney absolutely nailed the "Bush" question, in my opinion.

Obama had a very solid second half of the debate. I like that passion that it seemed he was showing.

Lastly, I hate that Libya will be the most talked about thing from this debate. I hate that we lost Americans over there, but I feel like should be only a small part of last night and I'm afraid it will be the main thing people focus on...whether Obama declared it an act of terror a day after, or two weeks after...who cares. Everyone knows it was, but now that is going to be what sways people on who thinks won this.

I had other things to do last night. But when I got home at 11:00, mcmama was practically jumping up and down with glee. She's just a little (not much) to the left of me.

So all I've seen are the soundbites - I can't pass judgement on who "won or lost".

But when it's either a toss-up or a narrow Obama "win" in the collective eyes of BGP nation; that speaks volumes.

Link?

I thought Romney was clearly winning until the moderator got involved and that seemed to derail him for a few minutes.

Romney did a very good job of bringing the Obama economic record, a record the President cannot and won't attempt to defend, to light. He hammered him on it for 90 minutes. In the end the debate turned on the Libya question. Like I said before, Libya is far from a dead issue and I think come next week the President is gonna have a tough time defending the administrations actions. Romney made a mistake last night but I don't believe he will make it again.

So if the day after he called it an"act of terror"

Why for the following weeks did Obama and the rest of the administration blame it on a video?

You can play that video all you want ,but it doesn't explain why you go to the UN and claim it is and random act of violence due to a video 2 weeks after the event.

They knew in 'real time' what happened that night. It was an attack, they knew it was an attack. Even the term 'act of terror' is vague. They used these generic words instead of the words 'targeted, planned attack'. They knew it was 'targeted planned attack' the night it happened. And then misled and lied for 3 weeks.

When Obama said he was 'offended' by the claim the cover-up and lying was done for political gain Romney should have said 'so if not for political gain why did your administration lie and mislead all of us for 3 weeks?'

One generalized comment in the Rose Garden does not get you off the hook for 3 weeks of obvious, intentional and direct misleading and lying.
