Obama Romney 10/16 Debate #2 Discussion

Featured Replies

One generalized comment in the Rose Garden does not get you off the hook for 3 weeks of obvious, intentional and direct misleading and lying.

It does in a debate if you focus on one word instead of the big picture.

Is this what people are using as evidence of Candy Crowley saying she was wrong?

That's all I can find online this morning. If that's the evidence....

She says exactly what she said DURING the debate. The words were said (Romney was wrong) but the POTUS took a long time to acknowledge it officially and clearly (What should have been Romney's focus).

How is that an admission of being wrong?

I think the Governor "scored" , if you will, on:

4 years of this economy

Differentiating himself from President Bush

I think the President scored:

Gas prices (nailed it with the explanation)

Immigration

Calling the Governor out on his supposed love of coal

Calling the Governor out for not being tough on China (although the Gov did get some of it back with a follow-up)

Governor's tax plan not adding up

Women's reproductive rights (heck, the Governor agreed with him)

When they were discussing the economy , and the President was explaining how the tax cuts were going to 5 trillion to the defecit, I was imploring Gov. Romney to stand and scream "16 TRILLION"!! Sort of like like the response in a football game, where the opponent, that is way down, trash talks, and the reply is " SCOREBOARD"!!

What is the format for the next debate?

The rules for last night's debate were that the candidates were not allowed to ask a direct question of the opponent. We see that wasn't followed.

I do not think the foreign policy debate will have much of an impact on voting. It will make for interesting discussion but will not have an impact. Obviously the President is going to have to be prepared for the embassy attack but I do not think his answers (which will be vague as in "I take full responsibility" etc) will cost him nor gain him votes.

It's not high enough on the list of issues for voters who are still deciding.

I think the Governor did a pretty good job of nailing the President for deficits.

I don't think the Governor wants to get into too much detailed talk about his tax plan. He has no real support for his math.

Thats fine. The math I don't like is the added 4 trilion dollars forecasted to be added to the debt next year. What we do know as far as plans, is the the President failed miserably. What he is facing now is that we have actual history on him as leader. Which we did not have 2008.

I think Gov Romney made that same point.

I think Gov Romney made that same point.

I think he did. He did question President Obamas leadership skills on a couple of different points. Which I found all to be valid concerns.

The President was incorrect when he said the Governor wants to use AZ's laws as a model for immigration.

Gov Romney had some praise for AZ but never said it was his model.

Gov Romney was FOR high gas prices before he was AGAINST high gas prices:

“I don’t think that now is the time, and I’m not sure there will be the right time, for us to encourage the use of more gasoline,” Romney said, according to the Quincy Patriot Ledger’s report at the time. “I’m very much in favor of people recognizing that these high gasoline prices are probably here to stay.”

The next debate is on foreign policy. Not sure on the format. I am hoping for Tony Reali to moderate and score it like Around the Horn where he can silence the candidates.

Arizona has had to take some drastic steps given their local. Your right - I never recall it being referenced as a 'model'.

Clyde, I appreciate the points that you make. I cannot recall you saying who you support in this election, and for the life of me I cannot discern this from your comments. Maybe you don't want to state where your support lies, and that most certainly is understandable.

I wish some of those asking the questions would interupt these two when they start with their talking points, and say, "you are not answering my question". It gets old hearing the same crap over and over. :isurrender:

I watched for about 15 minutes and neither answered either question that was asked. That's when I turned it off.
