October 17, 201214 yr Going into that question I thought Obama had redeemed himself and that it might be something to hang him up, but Romney tied his own noose on that one. Biden was hit with the question right out of the gate, and Obama fortuitously got to deal with it late, but it might have ended up being his best exchange besides the tax question. Agreed. I thought Romney's strongest moments occurred when he repeatedly brought up, "Here's what you said you would do; here's what you did." I thought the question about George W. Bush was handled very well by Romney, especially paralleling deficit spending under Bush vs. deficit spending under Obama. Concerning the deficit, I thought Romney battered him with that more tonight & I think that will resonate with some.
October 17, 201214 yr What did he say that day in the Rose Garden? I assume it's your opinion that when he said "no act of terror" wasn't a direct reference to this case? He said we would always stand up to an act of terror. He then for two weeks said that the attack on the embassy was a mob reaction. Which one was it? Hillary didn't call it an act of terror for 2 weeks and President Obama presented it to the UN as a uprise over a video 2 weeks after the attack. One day before the 2nd presidential debate Hillary takes the heat for Obamas lack of presidential guts. Unbeleivable.

Romney would do better sticking to hammering Obama on his record and other winning points, rather than get caught up in minute points ala Ryan. Like it or not politics tends to be a "headline sport"?? Obama was helped more by Candy Crawley's intervening defense than his own response.

He screwed up by trying to nail him on exact words.
October 17, 201214 yr What did he say that day in the Rose Garden? I assume it's your opinion that when he said "no act of terror" wasn't a direct reference to this case?He said, at the very end of his speech, something to the effect that terrorism we will stand up against any act of terror, but wasn't specifically referring to the incident in question. ANd it was after mentioning the infamous video excuse six times in that same speech.
October 17, 201214 yr Author BTW--Want's this supposed to be a foreign policy debate?? Also--Good defense attorney job for the Prez by the mod on the Libya question. The next debate is the one focused exclusively on foreign policy.

I would love to know what GW was thinking or saying aloud everytime his name was brought up??? ........."here they go, blaming me for everything".
October 17, 201214 yr CBS Poll: Obama- 37% Romney- 30% Tie- 33% Poll: Obama edges Romney in second presidential debate - CBS News Video
October 17, 201214 yr He said, at the very end of his speech, something to the effect that terrorism we will stand up against any act of terror, but wasn't specifically referring to the incident in question. ANd it was after mentioning the infamous video excuse six times in that same speech. The Governor should have said something like "Mr President, have you and your team come to an agreement on what the story is going to be? First you said a movie then your aide said something else then your VP said you guys didn't know about it. Let us know when you come up with the final version." Instead, he looked like an idiot by saying "you said the words 'act of terror'" when it was known that the POTUS used those words. He came across as trying to win a minor battle instead of the war.
October 17, 201214 yr He wasn't referring to the recent attacks. Do you base that on wording in his speech or something else?
October 17, 201214 yr He came across as trying to win a minor battle instead of the war. Charles Krauthammer essentially said the same thing.
October 17, 201214 yr The Governor did a nice job of distancing himself from President Bush other than the tax issue.
October 17, 201214 yr The Governor did a nice job of distancing himself from President Bush other than the tax issue. His best answer, IMO. And also the best question, IMO.
October 17, 201214 yr Author They just showed the Rose Garden speech on CNN and it backs up Obama. If you listen to the comments, he said "No act of terror" would be allowed and that the US would bring to justice those who committed this act. Even though there was the 2 weeks of back and forth and Obama avoided calling it a terrorist attack, he does slide by with those comments. Also, everyone is hammering Candy for backing the act of terror claim but she also called out the president that he did not clearly declare it a terrorist attack for two weeks.
