SvFan4life
Doesn't matter for joker. Towels is not the scoot this year or Joker would have already played him to save his job. Just sucks for the next coach coming in.
leatherneck
I'm with you. In the event of an injury to Whitlow, I think at this point, I'd rather see Newton under center than Towles. The season is already lost, so I would hate to lose a year of eligibility for Towles. Not sure I agree with you. Even if the season is lost as you called it, why not let Towles get the experience playing so that come spring ball and summer camp he can put that experience to use competing for the starting spot? Maybe the experience he gets over the rest of this season will help him win the starting spot and help him win games next year. I have to think the experience Bridgewater got last year at UL has really helped him this year. Why would it be any different for Towles? If Towles doesn't beat out Smith and Whitlow next year, he can always redshirt then.

I don't believe there is a definitive right or wrong on this issue, but speaking to your example of Bridgewater, I feel like he was in a better situation than Towles will be (if it comes to that). To begin with, Teddy had an easier schedule last season than Towles will for the remainder of this season. Secondly, Charlie Strong was going to be back the following season, whereas Joker will certainly not coach beyond this year. Thirdly, he had a better supporting cast than will Towles. Having said that, you (and others) make good points for playing him. But from my vantage point, I would rather have four full years of Patrick under what will hopefully be a brand new coaching regime, as opposed to losing a very valuable first year under the mess Joker has in Lexington right now. Auxier RiverRat
Joker can't win with this situation. Kid struggles and it's "you wasted a year removing his redshirt". If he does good than he gets blasted for not playing him all season. I understand the kid is a gamer and wants to play but does he really want to waste a year to maybe help his team go 3-9? Even if this season is lost and even if you are right about Teddy's situation at UL being better than the situation Tolwes will be in, playing Towles this year will make him better come Spring ball and Summer camp. He's going to have to start playing against SEC teams at some point, why not get some of that now? Pressure is somewhat off for this season. No one in their right mind should expect a whole lot out of a kid that has been running the scout team and hasn't ran UK's offense since pre-season. Throw him out there and let him take his lumps and learn. I really think it will make him better and give him the experience to compete against Smith and Whitlow for the starting job next season. If it turns out it really helps him perform and we only get 3 seasons of a high level of performance out of him, I'll be pleased as a hooker when the ship comes into port. If with the experience he gains over the rest of the season isn't enough to beat out Smith and Whitlow, there's nothing stopping him from redshirting next year. Folks opposed to the redshirt coming off need to ask themselves this question: if Towles was to beat out Smith and Whitlow next season, would you rather Towles have gained some experience this year or not? For me, it's an easy answer: heck yes I'd want that experience under his belt. Regardless of whether it's Joker or someone else as the head coach next year, I'm really tired of losing and I want whomever our QB is next year to have the best possible chance of succeeding. In other words, I'm not worried about Towles being able to be the QB in year 2016, I want to win now and if not this year, next year. At least that's the way I look at it. Who knows, those opposed to taking off the redshirt may be right. But Towles wants to play now, so I say let him.
strongopenyon
He left football to play baseball at UK. He left the football team because he was told he was not in the equation at the quarterback position. He took #2 reps throughout the spring, started in the spring game, scored a touchdown in the spring game, yet was not invited to camp in August. Not the first time this has happened at UK. Last season UK had two eligible quarterbacks (Morgan Newton and Max Smith) plus freshman Bookie Cobbins in summer camp. Trust me, Cobbins wouldn't start and might be third team at quarterback for Trinity. Joker and Randy Sanders have mismanaged the quarterback position for several years now. nikeman49
I think Joker is fearful that daddy Towles will make the younger Towles transfer if he doesn't see the field this year. Parents aren't always the smartest when it comes to seeing their all-star child sit the bench. It may be a case of sacrificing one year to ensure Joker gets three more from Towles instead of seeing him win Sun Belt Conference POW every week at Western KentuckyIf Joker wants to see Towles play qb. he better put him in the game and watch him play because he definitely will not be there next season to view him....might get to see him on some sports round-up highlight show!! CoachBuckett
Every quality rep your back-up takes is a quality rep your starter doesn't get. I would think a Senior QB that has started over a dozen games would be ready unless he was pouting and not preparing. They still need reps. You Back up is one play from being your starter. No reason why your back up isnt getting 20% of the reps.

I would be very surprised if they weren't. My guess is the Florida situation just came down to the Coach feeling that the experienced QB was more prepared for the speed of the game than the freshman. JCVD
So what does everyone who wanted him playing say now if he is lost for 4 weeks with an ankle injury? Take off his redshirt so he can play one quarter then basically lose him for the remainder of the season. I don't know NCAA rules very well...can they put the redshirt back on him since he got injured so quickly?
