I work with shelters and rescues to help change the perception of Pit Bulls...unfortunately, there are stupid people drawn to them for the wrong reasons and the dogs and the breed suffers.

 

 

Is the general understanding that a Pit Bull in a good home will probably never attack but in a home where the Pit is neglected or mistreated, aggression builds in the pit till it is unleashed all at once and Pits are just extremely powerful dogs which go do incredible damage?

Would it be ok for a citizen to also shoot a charging pit bull then?

I own a pit and know a couple of people who do as well. I have owned very smart dogs in the past and have found that these dogs are as smart as they come. The ignorance of owners often time cause all of the negative reponse for their breed.

 

I understand they have an instinct that requires owners to be as well trained as their dogs. I wish there were as many articles about helping pits as there are about banning them.

 

Any dog can be trained to be violent, it's sad that this breed has been the favorite of morons.

Great video. Loved it when the thug said "you just shot my dog"..................get on the ground and shut up. Once again, a smart decision by the police.

No problem with that... Pit Bulls are a High Risk breed, they are not as naturally mean as most think, but on the flip side they aren't as docile as some like to believe either. IMO anyone that trust a pit bull is a fool. Their dominate personality and strength make them a time bomb IMO...

Fact are Facts... and the Facts suggest that the Pit Bull is the most dangerous breed in the world. Not all that is the owners/breeders fault.

Pitbulls are one of the powerful breeds, like Rottweilers, German Shephards, Mastiffs. They also tend to be a high energy breed. Yes, they need a good owner, but mainly just not a bad owner..and that goes for any dog.

 

Sad part about Pit's are that the are the dog of choice for thugs who a) refuse to neuter them; b) raise them to be mean; and c) breed them to renew the circle. Only bad part about the video is that the policeman didn't pop one in the owner.

I guess some people could ask that question about any particularly powerful breed or a breed with any other trait we don't like. Why Rottweilers, for example, why Pekingnese? A properly socialized Pit is about as loving and friendly a dog as any. However, there is no denying that there are many in the hands of the wrong people who were breeding for the wrong traits....like Michael Vick et al....which puts the entire breed at risk. So let's just kill what we are afraid of....if it looks like a Pit?
