Dayton 38 Brossart 14

Featured Replies

Stat guy from Dayton just broke film down, 3 tds for Walker and 231 yards. Elbert 20 carries for 123. Pelgen played good but Daytons "D" left a few interceptions on the ground.
...and a couple of scores too!

If Brossart lost this bad to Datyon their AA schedule is going to be flat out ugly.

Elbert needs atleast 75 percent of the touches for Brossart. 23 passes was more than they have thrown all year.

Agree 200%. For some reason they went to passing game and gave the vaunted ground and pound offense of Dayton short fields.

Painful, painful loss for the Mustangs tonight.

As far as shutting things down, that is not likely to happen, BUT a 24 point loss to Dayton does not lend a lot of encouragment with a full-fledged 2-A schedule looming.

The Mustangs failed to punch it in from the two with time expiring in the first half, could have made it an 18-13 game at halftime with Brossart getting the ball to start the second half. Also had one called back in the first half, as did Dayton, but Dayton went on to score anyway. We didn't.

Pelgen was intercepted on first play from scrimmage in second half, and after scoring on that series and the next, the rout was on.

I feel bad for our kids and coaches who are passionate about football, and are committed to the program. The problem is - there are simply not enough of them. Catch 22. We don't win so the kids don't come back. The kids don't come back so we don't win. At present we have a thriving junior high (Colts) program. IF these kids will stick with it and provide the nucleus of a competitive varstiy football program, then we might be off and running after a slow start. IF the junior high kids don't persevere and we end up with 20 upperclassmen in uniforms like this year, then we probably need to take a serious look at the future of Brossart Football.

The one major caveat in starting football was that it had to be beneficial to us and not be an embarrassment or it would work against us. The kids we were losing to Campbell County football and NewCath football, for the most part are still going to Campbell and NCC for football. What we have learned is that football is hard, and it takes a lot of somewhat talented players to be successful. The KHSAA did us no favors by sending us to 2-A at this time in our development. Add it all up and it equates to a struggling football program.

Hopefully, better times are ahead!

I don't understand how it is anything but beneficial to those who play it. Therefore, I don't feel like you should even think of taking it away if there are that many kids involved in the program. Upperclassmen numbers in the twenties are enough to make it well worth while. As far as being 2A, that is where your school numbers lie.

Hope the Mustangs stick it out, you are correct, it is a catch 22. With Brossarts rich tradition in other sports I feel as though it is just a matter of time before the program turns.

It would certainly help the program if the administration would get behind it just a little more. $7 million capital improvement campaign going on right now and not one penny is being directed towards the sports program. I know plenty of Brossart parents who are not too happy about this.

Numbers is the 20's for football is not enough to compete. I agree though anytime you get 20 kids involved in a sport it is a good thing.

Is it time for a coaching change? I like their head coach but is it time for a fresh face and mindset?

I was told that they will be starting on the practice fields for soccer and football off Gilbert ridge road in the next few weeks. Also heard they are working with the city to renovate the ball field by the Alexandria park to make it a softball home field.

Is Brossart's only measurement of success "winning". Obviously they have kids in the program that are getting something out of it that they wouldn't have had an opportunity to do. Winning will come. It may take more time. But you have to sell the program and put the support structure to make kids want to be a part of it. This is how you will start to attract the better football players. The school is a good school. They need to sell the package and the fact that you can come to a smaller school and get exposure quick, plus get a good education. Beechwood and HHS are not big schoools, but they pull kids from all over that want to come. Now I know that is a long way off (comparing Brossart to those programs), but that's the model Brossart should use. I have no idea who the coach even is, but if they want to be successful, it's a year round job promoting the program and energizing and preparing the kids. It's not easy. Before I'd even think about throwing in the towel, I'd look in the mirror and ask the tough question of have we given our best effort and support to the program. And ask yourself, what are the positives? And build on that. Seems like a lot of people only use "winning instantly" as their measuring stick.

I completely agree.

Brossart has great kids out there that is giving it thier all on friday nights. Dont take football away from the ones that are out there doing it. Most of you know football is something you will remember for the rest of your life and I wouldnt take it away from them. High school football was one of the greatest memories I will ever have you always have stories to tell and I didnt play on playoff teams but we gave it our all and we were proud of what we the players did and made great friends while doing it. Its a special thing and these kids should be able to go through it as well. Keep fighting Brossart!!
