Random Thoughts:

 

Cooper has a nice team and everyone looks in real good physical shape.

Cooper relies too much on Tyler Morris at QB/Safety and AJ Collins at RB/Safety.

Boone played well on defense.

Boone has almost zero offense to speak of. Hit and miss passing game and a slow developing running game. If you can't score, you can't win.

Cooper's complex is really nice with the exception of the actual football field which is a cow pasture embarrassment. Do they have city water on Longbranch Road!? Just terrible.

The pregame music at Cooper is the absolute worst I have ever heard. It sounds like B side techno songs from the 80s. Please let the kids pick the music, trust me, they have MUCH better taste that the 40 somethings that put that listening disaster together.

Cooper's band was awesome and played a bunch of class 80s music. The dance team was nice too.

Both Boone and Cooper had an army of cheerleaders.

Couldn't agree more regarding Morris & Collins. If I'm the opposing coach I make sure that every play Morris plays on defense he is getting hit. I think you can wear him down. Cooper's defense, especially the d-line, looked very legit.

 

I am buying, not selling on the Rebels right now. They are young. I think they started a Freshman & at least 2 Sophomores. They have work to do on both sides of the ball, but I won't be shocked if they win the district despite a poor start to the season. Boone moved the ball better than Cooper for the last 3 quarters, although neither team really did much. The 2 best drives were the last of the first half and of the game when Boone moved the length of the field before turning the ball over via interception before half and on downs at the end of the game. Three holding penalties didn't help Boone in the second half. Again did not see Jet on offense this week. Remember he did score 4 times in the first game, so not having him the last 2 does hurt the explosiveness of the Rebels.

My take:

 

Boone is almost certainly the best 0-3 team in the state, for whatever that's worth. They've lost to three pretty good teams and it won't surprise me if they win their district. Not saying they will, but I won't be surprised.

 

The Cooper/Conner game should be a heck of an affair. I'd give Conner the edge based on their offensive diversity, but I think many on here favor Cooper. We'll see.

 

I agree with Ru on Cooper's complex. Actually noticed this earlier in the summer, and figured they would have it fixed up by the time games started.

Boone is not a bad team and I am still picking them to win the NKY 6A. They have played 3 really good teams to begin their season. Boone is last year's Campbell Co. Did Moss play in this game? If so, was he a factor?

It's been a long time since I've seen Conner's field, or any field for that matter look as bad as Cooper's did last year. It doesn't help that Cooper's field sits down at the bottom of that hill, not very conducive for drainage. I can't believe that when building that school brand new, the county wouldn't have invested in turf, and a better parking system. Oh well, what can you do?

This game is what I expected. Boone's style has always gave Cooper fits as they get their 4 yards up the middle and eat the clock. Boring game to watch. The field was watered all summer long, maybe bad soil mixture, but turf would be nice and we will not see it anytime soon, IMO.

 

It doesn't seem Boone gets shut out very often, so great job by the Cooper defense. Offensively, when Boone is "bringing the house" on every play after the first drive then I would change up the offense and throw some short quick throws. The WR's were out wide with the the DB's playing seven yards off and could easily do a slant and be on their way. Oh well, they won the game and I would not be a very good coach anyway.
