What if Curiosity finds a single cell of life?

What if a country with a struggling economy had spent the $2.5 billion on something else?

Who did that $2.5 billion go to? Didn't it get put back into the economy when the vendors were paid for the equipment?

I'd preferred they spent half of that in my office. That's alot of crown and bridge work for government employees. I've never really understood the Mars exploration. Do we have designs on annexing California and sending them there if it's inhabitable? If so, perhaps that cost is worth it.

I think one can argue we are moving too fast in terms of space exploration given our current technology but nothing is forever and life on Earth will not be forever so if the human race is to survive the long haul we need to see what else is available.

Someone will eventually have to find a way off of this pale blue dot, and there are always going to be economic problems. I depart from LRCW (on this one argument) and am with the 'Ru on this one.

Would the discovery of alien life call into question any Christian beliefs?

A fascinating question. The key word being "alien"; and how different the genetic makeup would be from anything on this orb.

For some it will, but I don't believe that the Bible was ever intended to be the "that's all there is" book. There are all kinds of things that exist that were never mentioned in the Bible.

All of these threads run together. Maybe Curiosity will find Chelsea Clinton and determine that she's gay and hasn't paid her taxes and that she wrote the book of Jude.

Seeing some of the post on this got me to thinking...

If a single living cell is proof of life on another planet, why is an embryo not proof of life (for many) on this planet?

Because that would be inconvenient. Great point sir.

Not here it would reinforce them for me .

I think you're grossly ignoring the effect that vast leaps in technology that missions like this have to make our lives better in the long run. I'm all for it!
