I know out of district students attending Boone County Schools.

 

1. Must be due to special circumstances (ie Moss kids)

Barring special circumstances a kid in Cooper's district cannot go to Conner or Ryle. It actually benefits a school like Cooper who a few years ago was trying to get the program off the ground. It would have been easy for parents in Cooper's district to send their child to Conner or Ryle since those programs were established.

So these schools are not allowing out of district students due to overcrowding. I can see that because it happens at Beechwood in the elementary. That may open up once they get all the new classrooms built at the end of construction. That being said, there is nothing in the KHSAA rules or the state education rules that prevents a school from taking an out of district student, right? The districts that don't allow out of district students have made that decision for their own district/school.

From a KHSAA perspective all schools, public and private, play by the same rules.

As of August 1st Highlands stopped allowing tuition students from out of district.

And I believe the same is true from a state school district perspective. The only big difference between a county district and an independent district is how their district borders are drawn. As long as a school district doesn't have its own restriction in place, a student can attend any district he wants regardless of where he lives. There is no difference between independent districts and county districts in this.

Yes, I set my own rules for my own opinion. Not sure how you would have an issue with that. Lots of people like you move to Ft Mitchell when their kids are young . Good call on your part. That is not even part of my debate. MY opinion is that those who transfer in AFTER their child starts high school AND when their child play sports ESPECIALLY football then they are doing so for FOOTBALL FIRST and then using Beechwood's stellar academic reputation as rationalization.

Ah, you speak a little Italian. Very nice. I totally get your point and perspective. I just come from a different angle. Judging whether someone is being honest is still subjective in my opinion. We seem to have formed a hypothesis or two. Maybe an empirical study is the next step. I have been struggling with a thesis topic.

I think we have established in another thread that D1 scholarship oppertunities are made at Camps and Combines more so than game performances or program attended. IMO, this really defeats the athletic transfer argement, unless there is no oppertunity to play at a particular program. It really just makes the decision all about winning high school games.

 

The academic argument really becomes shallow when the high school aged kid is moved, but the younger siblings remain in the district that is berated!

Maybe one school is a good fit for one kid but not the other? Family in my neighborhood has kids at NDA, Dixie, and St. Joes. Again, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but thank god there are people around that allow kids to think for themselves and dont feel theneed meddle in othets business. Worry about your own family, as other posters have begged you to do.

If I live in Hebron, I can attend school at BW, CCH, HC and HHS (I understand they are temporarily not taking out of district students). However, if I live in Ft. Mitchell, Park Hills, Latonia or Ft. Thomas, I cannot attend Conner, BC, Ryle or Cooper and pay tuition. Just got this confirmed with a call to the BC BOE.
