After looking at Beechwood's roster I noticed a lot of kids that where not on their roster last year. I know of at least 6 players that came from a different school.

Here is the 6 I know of. But I think there is a couple more not sure?

Only Justice and Lane are transfers. None of the others played varsity ball for another school so they really aren't transfers. If you have not played varsity ball at another school, you can go to any high school you want and you don't need any approval from the KHSAA. Justice, Lane and Hamilton all live in Ft. Mitchell.

They do an excellent job of recruiting at the middle school level. They use their kids to do it for them so they don't get their hands dirty.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I don't live in NKY. But your kids should recruit for your program. They do it every Friday night when they walk on the filed. I think Beechwood has reached a point that the porgram and performance does all its recruiting.

 

I know I want my teams performance to recruit kids. I understand if my team isn't winning kids don't want to be a part. Kids today understand winning.

Make your program a place that kids want to play, not a program that kids want to leave.

Kids want to play with their friends. You want to know the biggest culprit in your conspiracy theory - select sports. Kids play select basketball and baseball with each other, get to be friends and then they talk about playing together in high school. It happens in boys and girls sports.

 

The second big factor - parents want the best for the kids and don't feel obligated to attend the school where they live. Ninety percent of all students at Beechwood are there because they chose to be part of Beechwood. For the vast majority of them, it has nothing to do with football. Parents move their families into this district every year from the elementary school ages on up because they want their kids to go to a great school. Parents like that it is a small school.

 

Don't feel cheated or guilty because you didn't make that choice. You made your own choice just like every other student at your school. That is no reason to constantly knock other parents and students who made a different choice than you did.

Even though they did not play varsity at their previous school and do not need any approval from the KHSAA they are still considered transfers IMO.....and there is nothing wrong with that.

:ohbrother: Not again. Kids transfer. Kids quit. So do coaches and adults in everyday life. It happens. Deal with it and get over it. It has gone on for years. Before social media, commuication was different and probably more personal but it is a sign of the times. It amazes me that you seem to know every reason for a transfer and excactly how it was handled. You are good.

Now that is a point I can agree with you on. It is a very tough situation being in the middle of two programs and not having made a decision. At what point do you step out of the previous team? You can't do it while you are thinking about it, can you?. What if things fall through or you ultimately decide to stay instead of leave?

 

For example, there was an excellent starting running back (I will not name him) who very seriously considered attending Beechwood. This player shadowed at Beechwood, completed the paperwork to enroll at Beechwood, etc. Over several months the expectation for him and his family was he would attend Beechwood. However, they finally decided it was better for him to stay at his current school. No doubt he was working out with teammates the whole time this decision was being considered. At what point should he say I am thinking about Beechwood? How does that play out? As soon as he shadows at Beechwood in the spring? Once he completes paperwork even though a final decision has not been made? If he decides to let everyone know he is considering a different high school, how does that play out once he decides to stay? Think it through. If your son considered a different high school, how would you handle that process? It isn't easy.

 

Unfortunately, the best way to handle it IMO is work as hard as you can with your current team until you know for sure you are leaving. There just isn't a better way to do it. It isn't easy, and it isn't fun but that is what is best for everyone despite the hard feelings that are sure to follow at the former team.

I think if BW started and formalized their own feeder system like Cov Cath and Highlands have done, and these program decisions were made earlier, there would not be such hard feelings. Right now, the impression overwelmingly is that BW success is on the backs of kids who started in other programs.

Beechwood has had a MS team for 3 years now.
