Ethan was in the Freshman scrimmage Friday. So before you grow a third hump, you can rest easy as to the motivation of the Stringer family. Has anyone ever considered that Beechwood HS academics is nationally ranked?

Is that 99% a result of an empirical study? I understand your point but 99% of the kids do not go on to play in college. It is not a secret that a fair amount of Beechwood students receive some form of an academic scholarship heading to college. If a kid is a good student and a good athlete then why not go somewhere, like Beechwood, to leverage the future.

Based on the kids rationale or parents? I agree with you if its kids, because how many teenagers are foresighted enough to factor academics into an equation? Thats what makes BW such an attractive choice for kids and parents alike. Kids get the sports, parents get the class room. Win Win.

You bring up an excellent point. I can't speak for other schools, but Beechwood has a lot of "transfers" far beyond the number that play football. If we ran the numbers on Beechwood high students who live out of district or moved in district when their child was about to enter high school, it would be more than 70 students. I believe there are about 60 out of district students paying tuition at the high school. Add in those who moved in district and I would be surprised if it was less than 70 and could be a good number more than 70. Less than 10 of those students play sports. So there are 60+ "transfer" students at Beechwood who don't play sports. Believe me, many more students come to Beechwood for academics than they do for athletics.

Always? We moved to Fort Mitchell solely for the reason to be in the BW school district. My kids do not play sports.

......well, there is a new cafeteria under construction.

No danger of a third hump but the motivation was pretty clear that it was at least in part motivated by athletics at the new school which is a violation of the transfer rule and would require him to sit out a year. Glad the kid is a freshman as my understanding he is exempt from the rule.

 

If he didn't play varsity last year in any sport last year, regardless of his grade last year, it doesn't matter if the transfer was motivated by athletic intent. Athletic intent only comes into play as to whether one of the exceptions to the one year of ineligibility have been satisfied. If he didn't play varsity ball last year, there is no need to satisfy one of the exceptions and hence, athletic intent is irrelevant.

I sure hope this kid is a freshman if not you have in writing from the kids dad evidence of a "change in schools motivated in whole or part by a desire to participate in athletics at the new school." If he's not in high school yet or hasn't played varsity more power to them.

 

Not knowing the kid or the situation I simply posted my hopes that a post on a message board wasn't going to cost a kid a year of football.

It is starting to get to that point Clyde. Despite the construction and adding classrooms, my understanding is several classes in the elementary are now closed to tuition students because of space issues. I know of two Ft. Mitchell houses that sold in the past month because families that were planning to pay tuition could not get their kids into the elementary. One of the houses sold for above asking price. They had to buy a home and move to get their kids into the school. Music to the ears of Ft. Mitchell property owners, especially in this market.

 

A side note on the academics and why so many non-athletes "transfer" to Beechwood - this year's Beechwood senior class had an average score on the ACT above 25.
