Someone pointed out privately to me that my message is a bit mixed. Let me clarify.

 

IMO the primary reason is NOT academics in 95%+ of the cases. I said previously it's athletics. I believe it's the case most of the time but there are other valid reasons that are the primary factors.

So.... an out of district student can attend any high school he/she wants.

 

The exception is schools may limit out of district students due to space issues.

 

I want this to be clear because many posters on BGP have the misperception that independent districts have different rules than county districts.

They do have different rules than some other school districts.

 

It's just not different in the eyes of the KHSAA.

I honestly don't understand why you would go to Beechwood anymore strictly for football. They are A, which means the competition you play week in and week out is low. They haven't been getting the job accomplished lately at the state level in that classification. Division I coaches look at a player vs. their best competition. You are much more likely to get the desired looks playing at a larger school that has sucess. Of course, Beechwood does have many other benefits to offer. However, their benefits do not exceed Highlands or Ryle academically. Once again, I am not trying to insult Beechwood. I am just making the point that I feel there would be more reasons than football to transfer to Beechwood at this moment in their program.

I agree. You can't use that argument when your own district made that rule for themselves. It might not be fair, but they are doing it to themselves. Do you want Ft. Thomas to change their rule because one other district did? Not going to happen. So the argument is not a good one. If it was a state rule that differentiated the two, then you have an argument. But in this case, it's the local district that put it in place. You can't penalize other districts for their decision. And I know that someone just said the SK just stopped allowing open enrollment inside their county system, but without confirming that, couldn't any Kenton Co school (that is considered in the county district) have loaded up with all the football players without any argument because of their open enrollment? So why do you only use the independent school districts in arguments. It actually sounds like Boone Co schools are in the minority and choose to be there.
