I would like to continue a discussion from the Rockies thread about Dusty benching Ludwick yesterday. I questioned the logic of not playing one of your hottest hitters and of course Know It All #1 (LRCW) and Know It All Even More (GT) attacked me for asking.

 

I realize the Reds won but it still doesn't make the decision a good one. I also understand you need to rest players and the Reds have 40 pretty intense days coming up. However, why rest Ludwick, who didn't start on the 19th and the 24th, and play Bruce, who hasn't had a day off in forever? Factor in the Reds were facing a left hander and Ludwick has been on fire and Bruce, well not so much. Was Ludwick hurt, as GT alluded?

I read Hal McCoy's column this morning and he mentioned Dusty making the right moves and mentioned sitting Ludwick without mention of injury. Doesn't mean he wasn't injured though.

You need to make sure you get your facts straight. Bruce was given the day off on the 17th (against Arizona) and the 23rd (against Wandy and the Astros; he did pinch hit and play the last 2 innings of that game).

 

And yes, Ludwick landed funny the night before, so a day off was probably a smart decision.

I only went back the past 10 days so I didn't realize Bruce had a day off 2 weeks ago.

 

If Ludwick is hurt or need a day off to nurse an injury then fine. But so far I have seen nothing from Baker or anyone else that indicates that was the reason.

Baker said he was a little banged up from the fall on the pregame interview with Marty yesterday...

^ I was critical of the decision to sit Ludwick, but if that was due to injury, it's obviously the right choice.
