July 21, 201214 yr As a gun owner, guns do not kill people. People kill people! Yes, I am all for more gun control, but this situation was unavoidable, if he didn't have guns he would have used explosives, look how he booby-trapped his apartment. Lol at Timothy McVey. Look at Europe and the bombing there. If they can't get guns they will use explosives, and they are not hard to make. It's just some people are crazy and heartless.

Those that think more gun laws or gun bans are the solution haven't been paying attention to the drug problem in this country.
July 21, 201214 yr As I knew would happen, it was quick to be politicized. From an ABC News broadcast yesterday: Stephanopoulos: I’m going to go to Brian Ross. You’ve been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant. Ross: There’s a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don’t know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it’s Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado. Stephanopoulos: Okay, we’ll keep looking at that. Brian Ross, thanks very much. They have since apologized: Editor’s Note: An earlier ABC News broadcast report suggested that a Jim Holmes of a Colorado Tea Party organization might be the suspect, but that report was incorrect. ABC News and Brian Ross apologize for the mistake, and for disseminating that information before it was properly vetted. Edited July 21, 201214 yr by Run To State

I agree 100% on the part about looking at the drug problem in the country.

Not sure if I would call it politicized or what some would say "liberal media", but I do see a reporter who is trying to reach for anything to get a story before anyone else. If this other jim Holmes was a Muslim, I am sure this reporter would have inserted Muslim in place of Teapartier.
July 22, 201214 yr Question for some of you CCW permit holders. Actually a couple of questions. A. do you always have your weapon with you and is a theater a place you'd happen to carry it? (prior to this event) and B. would you return fire in that instance with so many people around?

(prior to this event) and B. would you return fire in that instance with so many people around? A. Not always and yes, it's small and fits easily in my pocket. B. Only with a clear shot at the suspect. I would not take a pistol shot from the back of the theater at someone near the front, nothing good would come from that.
July 22, 201214 yr Wasn't sure which thread this would be most relevant to, but I have a question for those who might know. With all the specialized gear this guy was wearing, would a conceald carry gun have made any difference whatsoever? It sounds like he was prepared sufficiently to defend himself against even the most powerful weapons. Would he have been vulnerable through the gas mask?

It sounds like he was prepared sufficiently to defend himself against even the most powerful weapons. Would he have been vulnerable through the gas mask? No way of knowing how he would react to getting bullets sent back in his direction. Notice that he didn't put up a fight when he realized he was being approached by someone armed (the police). He could have had quite the gun battle with them if he wanted to. With that said if someone did return fire they would have probably had to hit him in the head to stop him. Sounds like he had body armor most every where else. Although one round hitting him on his vest might have sent him running out the door. Who knows.
July 22, 201214 yr He had a Kevlar helmet too. Seems like he would almost have to be taken down physically.
July 22, 201214 yr I don't have my CC permit, yet. I've wanted it, but never really pursued it. Events like this make me want to go get it tomorrow....

Although one round hitting him on his vest might have sent him running out the door. Who knows. Didn't it also say he had on a tactical helmet? How bulletproof are they? I don't know anything about their ratings. As for his surrender, I would have to think he had that in mind anyway. In this situation I feel like the possibility that multiple patrons might have been carrying would have been a more effective deterrent than the actual guns in action. If someone would have actually pulled a gun they would have been severely overmatched. The shooter would have had many more shots, a more accurate weapon, body armour and a gas mask. Add in the fact that the shooter was in the middle of a crowd and any shots toward him that missed could easily have harmed innocent people. It is highly likely that anyone that returned fire would have drawn an immediate hail of bullets in their direction. Now if he had to worry about several people being armed...that might have prevented him from ever picking that target.
July 23, 201214 yr Shoot him in the face, gas mask would be no protection. Even hitting his helmet would rock his world enough that others could escape while he was getting his bearinsg back.
