Gun Control

Featured Replies

I'm sort of surprised it took until almost 1:00pm for this topic to come up. My lady friend made a comment about it this morning because of last night, so we had a little discussion, ending in her saying "You Win" :ylsuper:

Bad people will use guns whether they are legal or not, just like drug addicts will use drugs whether they are legal or not.

I wasn't surprised to see it, but like you it took longer than I thought it would. I'm sure the anti-gun side will politicize this very soon if they haven't already.
I don't like the government controlling everything. Having said that, I am not a big gun person, and I believe more guns going off in a crowd increases the likelihood of more people getting shot. The availability of guns, especially to gangbangers, wackos, juveniles, etc. is a big issue, but I don't think the government passing gun control laws will positively impact the problem.

Sadly, what I see next is that pretty much every public place is going to have to install metal detectors.

The wackos and the terrorists do it out of frustration and to vent their frustration and get publicity. I hope this freak doesn't get the publicity he wants, but rather is made to disappear into a black hole somewhere.

Wouldn't have done any good in this scenario, they said he kicked in the back door of an emergency exit. So he came from the outside of the building directly in to the theatre.

Those who think it's not important to show an ID to vote, think it's a great idea to have more gun control! They don't like the idea of a ID to vote saying it's my right to vote but can't seem to understand that it's my right to own a gun!

BTW I no longer own a gun as I gave up hunting years ago not because of not liking to hunt but because of my knees!

I heard that the cinema had 'No CCW' signs posted. Basically advertising itself as a soft target. The deterrent effect of CCW is to keep the bad guys guessing. If you have CCW free zones then you have a known soft target.

Both highlighted shooting incidents this week had a CCW theme associated with. The results, on face value, would say CCW is in general a good thing.

I do not believe that the crowd having guns would have prevented this.

Possibly not prevented. But maybe reduced casualties. 2 or 3 people shooting back may have pinned down the assailant giving the broader crowd the ability to exit.

Where was the other shooting this week?

This gunman wasn't worried about going to prison for the rest of his life, why would he care if someone shot him? He didn't care about anything......PERIOD.

I have a "lifetime permit" to carry a firearm, but I "don't carry" and that is my choice. If something were to happen that really made me mad, I don't want to do something that I might regret in that "split second" decision, that might ruin the rest of my life.

I live outside the city limits, when my neighbors house got broken into, it took the police 20 minutes to get there. My neighbor actually called the police while the intruder was still trying to get in. He had no firearms in the house, but had a baseball bat for protection. Just about all my neighbors have guns, but not because its a bad neighborhood, because it takes so long for help. I know for a fact, the thought of home owners having guns is a huge factor of reducing breakins,in areas like mine.

Where was the other shooting this week?

The senior citizen in the Internet Cafe. But there the shooting was done by a good guy.

Ha duh I even commented on that thread, I guess I was just thinking of shooting on a larger scale at the time.

Thanks for the info. sportsfan41. I am not in favor of metal detectors at the movie BTW.

Just wondering how drug laws have worked out wiht the war on drugs?

Agreed

You mean like that 17 year old in Cincinnati that had 600 plants of the top shelf grade worth over 3 million dollars. No wonder he smiled when his parents sent him to his room.

Are you talking about the tunnel that they just found going from Mexico to Arizona?.........etc.........etc

It's possible that's for sure.

I have a question about tear gas. Does it explode into a huge puff of smoke to where you can't really see that well?

It depends on the circumstance. In a darkened theater, for sure - although there were people in the Aurora who said the panic started when Holmes' silhouette became visible through the smoke as he was being backlit by the light reflecting off the movie screen. In daylight outdoors, you won't be quite so impared, but visibility is certainly still reduced.

I don't see a problem with it, as long as it's the theater owner's choice to have it there.

In my opinion he couldn't have known last night that no one was carrying, therefore it didn't stop him then...why would it stop others in the future? IMO it takes a special kind of crazy to do this. The gunman will not be deterred.

I read that the town or maybe it was the theater he was in does not allow concealed carrying of firearms. So he might have had a good idea no one would be packing.
