July 20, 201214 yr Thanks for the info. sportsfan41. I am not in favor of metal detectors at the movie BTW. Haha I figured as much just thought I would throw that out there.
July 20, 201214 yr I don't see a problem with it, as long as it's the theater owner's choice to have it there. Whatever the owner wants is fine I was just simply pointing out that in this scenario it would have done no good, well other than to make sure that none of his soon to be victims had any guns to fire back with.

I agree. Like OTB84 said, a law won't stop crazy folks committed to doing evil.
July 20, 201214 yr I wasn't surprised to see it, but like you it took longer than I thought it would. I'm sure the anti-gun side will politicize this very soon if they haven't already. ...and the pro-gun side isn't politicizing it right now on here? He didn't come out and say it, but hb20's comment pretty much said it.
July 20, 201214 yr ...and the pro-gun side isn't politicizing it right now on here? He didn't come out and say it, but hb20's comment pretty much said it. I didn't politicize anything. I didn't start this thread. I made an observation that many, pro-gun or not, probably agree with.

July 20, 201214 yr In my opinion he couldn't have known last night that no one was carrying, therefore it didn't stop him then...why would it stop others in the future? IMO it takes a special kind of crazy to do this. The gunman will not be deterred. No, but he could possibly have been contained so that fewer people were killed or injured.
July 20, 201214 yr As I said, you didn't say it...but you did. Whatever you say. You said I politicized it. I did not. I responded to someone who said guns wouldn't have prevented this.
July 20, 201214 yr This has surely been discussed on BGP before, but in light of the Colorado Batman movie shootings, it seems appropriate to discuss this now. Personally I don't think this incident and gun control are related at all, because no amout of gun control would have changed it. How can shootings like the Colorado one be prevented or reduced? This is very relevant. How do we protect our civil liberties? Both individual freedoms and the right to peaceably assemble. Do we want armed military in malls, bus stations, train stations, etc like you see in other countries. Would more gun control help? No Or maybe we should head back towards the wild west and promote more carry and conceal? Thoughts? Concealed carry and wild west comments get old. No one is in favor that. Some of the most law abiding citizens you will ever meet have concealed carry permits.
July 21, 201214 yr Author Concealed carry and wild west comments get old. No one is in favor that. Some of the most law abiding citizens you will ever meet have concealed carry permits. I wasn't intending anything negative with my wild west comment. I was just saying that maybe it would be better if we all knew there was always someone around carrying a weapon and maybe criminals would think twice if they knew it as well. Obviously you can't stop this from ever happening again and an idiot who decides to do something like the Colorado shooting is going to be able to do it. But like others said, when someone does go to this extreme, damages may be minimized and justice may be served swiftly if there were someone with a weapon there. I think we are on the same page, I just wanted to make it clear my wild west comment was not a slam.
July 21, 201214 yr ...and the pro-gun side isn't politicizing it right now on here? He didn't come out and say it, but hb20's comment pretty much said it. Is HB20 a politician? They're who I was referring to.

However, nothing will stop a nut bag like this guy from trying, but maybe a bullet will stop people like him from hurting so many.
July 21, 201214 yr Just saw where an Arizona Represenative said that a national discussion on crime and firearms needs to take place in lieu of this shooting. IMO this guy was going to do something one way or another, he is a whack job. If not with a gun then with homemade explosives or maybe driving a car into a crowd. No gun law would have prevented this action.
